First Data and National City Bank has agreed to a long-term contract extension for its debit and credit card portfolios currently processed by First Data. First Data will continue to provide comprehensive processing services for 5.6 million signature debit card accounts and 3.8 million credit card accounts. National City is also a member of First Data’s STAR Network, a coast-to-coast electronic payments network specializing in secure, real-time purchase and ATM transactions.
First Data has hired Jerry Bartlett, previously with TD AMERITRADE, as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Development for First Data Resources. While at TD AMERITRADE, he oversaw all IT initiatives, including business technology planning, application development, information and physical security, and IT infrastructure and architecture. After directing the application integration in a key merger at TD AMERITRADE, he was recognized as one of ComputerWorld’s 2005 Premier 100 IT Leaders based on his leadership in managing risk and execution during the merger. Before working at TD AMERITRADE, Bartlett led large applications development and database organizations in the St. Paul Company and also led several initiatives as a manager of systems development for the American Red Cross. Bartlett holds a B.S. in Technology and Management from the University of Maryland.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia has selected Gemplus International for its first MasterCard “PayPass” pilot. The six-month trial will be rolled-out in New South Wales, with the first phase involving 33,000 CBA cardholders who will be able to use their
MasterCard “PayPass” cards at more than 150 participating merchants.
Gemplus provided the “GemInstant” cards for the pilot. Gemplus has been present in the Australian market for many years, which was reinforced in 2000 by setting up a local joint venture, LM Gemplus Pty Ltd.
SD-based First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard has renewed its credit card processing agreement with First Data for its 4.3 million cardholders. Under the terms of the long-term contract extension, First Data will continue to provide comprehensive card processing services, including statement production and mailing and plastics personalization. Susan Henricks has returned to First Data as president of First Data Resources. Under a new six-year agreement, First Data will continue to provide credit, debit and merchant processing services for the Southeast Bankcard Association, which represents over 70 member financial institutions. More than 680,000 credit and debit card accounts on file and 38,000 merchant locations will be processed by First Data Resources Inc. through the agreement. First Data has provided SEBA with credit and merchant processing services since 1975. In addition, SEBA recently partnered with First Data Direct Banking to provide an Internet site where member institutions’ cardholders can view and download account information.
Wakefield, MA-based New England Bankcard Association Inc. has chosen to renew its bankcard processing agreement with First Data Resources Inc. for an additional five years. Under the agreement, First Data will provide credit, debit, commercial, and private label card processing services, as well as merchant processing services to NEBA through 2003. NEBA, which serves over 75 issuing and acquiring financial institutions and businesses, has been a First Data client since 1980.
