Oberthur Technologies announced Nets digital money, digital information and digital identities and card processor selected its Trusted Service Manager (TSM) to secure NFC services for partnering banks and other service providers across Nordic countries. Hosted in Oberthur Technologies’ highly-secured data centre in Tewkesbury (United Kingdom), the TSM will allow each bank partnering with Nets to securely issue, distribute and administrate payment cards into the NFC SIM cards of their respective customers. Nets will be able to aggregate different types of NFC payment cards (debit, credit and prepaid cards) and will be open to other forms of mobile payment solutions in the future, as well as to a variety of digital services (tickets, travel cards, electronic keys, membership cards…). It will be provided as an open, flexible white label solution so that the end-users will perceive this as their individual bank’s or service provider’s solution.

Contactless smart card provider On Track Innovations has
signed contracts for a national eID program worth $30 million. The contracts provide for the supply of OTI’s end-to-end turnkey solution, based on its proprietary state-of-the-art, field-proven eID Magna(TM) platform. OTI’s secured ID solution supports both online and offline communication, thereby allowing every citizen, living in cities and rural areas, to apply for an ID card regardless of the area’s communication infrastructure. This user-friendly solution is designed to provide maximum accuracy and security. The award of the project follows a successful completion by OTI of a pilot program and provides for the supply of new biometric-based electronic ID cards and other official documents (relating to birth, death, marriage, etc.), as well as the equipment required for the setup of the document issuing stations country-wide.
eFuture Information Technology China-based retail software and services
has inked strategic agreements with Microsoft Corporation to provide a
standardized POS-ERP system. Targeting retailers across China, the new
system will integrate Microsoft Windows “Embedded POSReady 2009” into
eFuture’s POS-ERP “Store Operation System” and leverage the latter’s
nationwide retail customer base. This will pair the POS-ERP “Store
Operation System” with the Microsoft’s operating systems for a low-cost,
secured data platform with service-oriented architecture. The Microsoft
Windows “Embedded POSReady 2009” operating system is equipped with
flexible and customizable features for customer hardware requirements
providing the ability to connect to peripherals and servers on a broad
range of applications. eFuture Information Technology provides its
software and services to the rapidly growing China retail sector and
employs more than 600 employees in 20 branch offices across the country.
Smart card provider On Track Innovations
has a signed a contract with the Registro Civil of the Government of Ecuador to launch a limited
scale pilot project for
the country’s National eID system, which will serve as the first stage
of the national eID system. The project includes issuance of new
biometric-based electronic ID cards and other public certificates
(birth, death, marriage, etc.) for the citizens of Ecuador.
OTI will supply its end-to-end turnkey solution, based on its
proprietary state-of-the-art, field-proven eID “Magna” platform. The
project includes supply of both stationary and mobile stations for data
enrollment, creating a central registry database and issuing
contactless, highly-secured smart ID cards. The solution also
incorporates a Biometric Automatic Fingerprint Identification System
(AFIS), which detects and prevents multiple registration attempts. The value of
this first stage project to OTI is estimated at $4 million, with
deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2009.

SAGEM Monetel and Atmel have launched the “SAGEM Monetel EFT 30” secure payment terminal and its “PPR 30 Pin-Pad.” The new terminal accepts all current payment schemes and
card technologies plus meets EMV and PED requirements. The new SAGEM terminals are built around the ARM-based microcontrollers developed in partnership with Atmel. Implemented on 0.18-micron CMOS technology, they capitalize on the synergy between the applications expertise on the part of SAGEM Monetel and the system level integration capability of Atmel. Both companies says these two devices represent the start of a family of jointly-developed products targeting highly-secured POS terminals.
