Intersections Offers Traveler Advice To Avoid ID Theft
Intersections consumer and corporate identity theft risk management services, and ITAC, the Identity Theft Assistance Center, a national advocate for recognized identity theft prevention and recovery, advises leisure and business travelers to be aware of their increased exposure on the road and to learn how to protect themselves from becoming the next victim of identity theft. According to the U.S. Travel Association, 2.3% more vacation travel is expected this year than in 2009. Subsequently, Intersections and ITAC is recommending travelers: has mail collected or held at the Post Office, someone visit and turn lights on and off, and do not leave financial documents lying in plain view; avoid “tweeting” or blogging travel plans or talking about them on social networking sites; do not assume public “hot spots” are secure; bring as few credit cards as possible; and do not use debit cards while on vacation.
