VS CEMEA GDV hit the brakes in the second quarter with a YOY gain of 7.1%, compared to 12.4% in the prior quarter and 12.8% in the year ago quarter, according to CardData.

International (excluding the USA) Gross Dollar Volume (GDV) for Visa (VS) and MasterCard (MC) credit cards rose 2.0% year-on-year (Y/Y) in the fourth quarter (Q4/14), on a dollar basis. On a local currency basis VS’s growth in Q4/14 international credit cards GDV growth slightly outpaced MC by 50 basis points (bps), according to CardData.
Visa and MasterCard credit, debit and prepaid cards around the world will likely top 3.9 billion or up 4.5% in the first quarter according to forecaster RAM Research. Visa will end the quarter with about 2411 million and MasterCard with 1488 million cards-in-force (CIF).
It is likely American Express will continue to lose U.S. marketshare to Visa (VS) and MasterCard (MC) in the first quarter, with MC doing the most damage, according to forecaster RAM Research. The AmEx erosion will continue throughout 2015 and will be impacted in the second quarter of 2016 when AmEx ends the Costco card, which accounts for 10% of AmEx Cards-in-Force (CIF).
Visa’s (VS) Latin America Caribbean (LAC) region Gross Dollar Volume (GDV) rose year-on-year (Y/Y) 13.7%, on a local currency basis, in the fourth quarter (Q4/14). Growth in the region has been growing steadily in the second half of 2014, and will likely remain so through 2015.

On a local currency basis MC’s growth in Q4/14 international debit cards GDV growth outpaced VS by 11 percentage points, according to CardData.
