Cubic Transportation Systems, Transport for London (TfL) and Barclaycard have received another major honor for London’s contactless bankcard payment system, after winning the prestigious ‘Operational and Technical Excellence’ award at the 2015 UITP (International Association of Public Transport) closing award ceremony in Milan.
Hoeft & Wessel is set to provide NFC enabled contactless payment functionality across its ITSO ticketing equipment and terminals through the integration of Contactless. CreditCall’s Contactless Kernel allows Hoeft & Wessel ticketing, parking and mobile solutions to incorporate contactless payment technology into its solutions, greatly reducing their development and time to market cycle. ACT (Applied Card Technologies Ltd) contactless tickets and payments solutions was placed at position #49 in the recently announced Sunday Times Tech Track 100 listing of Britain’s fastest growing private technology companies. ACT which joined forces with sQuid in May earlier this year to create Smart Transactions Group, the new European leader in smart transactions, in a deal valued at $87 million (£53.3 million). Clear2Pay next generation payment solutions for financial institutions is supporting ITSO, the government-backed, not-for-profit organisation which defines and develops the UK-wide technical specification for smart ticketing, with the implementation of a Certification Centre in the United Kingdom. Clear2Pay will also provide further consultancy services to ITSO and deliver Integri Test Solutions to their vendor community. ITSO has relied on Clear2Pay’s test technology and knowledge and used the company’s in-house laboratory to certify the ITSO vendor community since 2003. Under the terms of the new contract, Clear2Pay facilitates knowledge transfer so that ITSO can operate its own testing and certification center, allowing members and third party vendors to certify transport smart cards and devices against the prevailing specifications.
Two innovative UK start-ups responsible for millions of contactless tickets and payments per month have joined forces to create a new European leader in smart transactions. Applied Card Technologies (ACT) and digital payments company sQuid have joined forces under a new corporate umbrella, Smart Transactions Group, in a deal valued at $87 million (£53.3 million). Both companies currently operate contactless smart card-based networks, and now share plans to launch NFC and mobile phone-based solutions in the near future. Smart Transactions Group will have pro-forma 2011 revenues of approximately $15 million (£9.5 million) and its payments revenue, measured on a Total Payment Value (TPV) basis, is growing at a significant double digit monthly rate, while transit transactions are also expected to grow 50% in 2011.
Consult Hyperion independent consultancy contactless smart cards and mobile devices is unveiling in its partnership with Transport for London (TfL) its role to allow transport network passengers access with just a tap of their contactless payment card. Consult Hyperion is helping to bring together the disparate systems of payment scheme providers in transit and retail, as well as card issuers and terminal technologies, in order to ensure that the new scheme will be viable for TfL in terms of the technology and identifying and meeting the security requirements. With this, customers can ‘touch in’ with their contactless credit and debit cards on TfL’s public transport network of tube and buses, just as they already can when making low value purchases in many coffee shops and other retail outlets.

Terminal manufacturers and payment software developers can now quickly and easily integrate Contactless Kernel technology into their solutions to mitigate against the high cost of development and maintenance. The fully featured Contactless Kernel enables acceptance of Visa contactless and MasterCard PayPass enabled cards in retail and unattended environments. It meets all current Visa, MasterCard and EMVCo standards and allows support for additional contactless card schemes such as NFC. Contactless.LIB supports MasterCard’s PayPass M/Chip and M/Stripe in addition to Visa’s qVSDC and MSD functionality.

ePayment provider sQuid has launched a new contactless smartcard-based loyalty schemes. Through a scheme of their choice retailers can now appeal to new customers and reward their frequent customers. Loyalty schemes could
include cash back or a loyalty reward after a certain value of spend
or number of transactions. A unique benefit of sQuid is that business
owners can personalise the scheme to their needs with own-branded sQuid
cards, and communicate with customers via a branded portal.
sQuid uses leading-edge contactless smart card technology, providing
customers with an online account where they can view their transactions,
as well as keep track of their loyalty funds. The funds on the card are
protected with a central host system, far better than flimsy ‘stamp
cards’ common with some loyalty schemes and which are open to abuse.
sQuid’s unique pre-pay system enables multi-functional
smart cards, combining eMoney retail payments, ITSO (Transit) schemes and council smart card initiatives.
The eMoney payments network, including Greater Manchester Passenger
Transport Executive (GMPTE), Bolton Council, Arriva buses, Parkeon, ACT
and sQuid, has launched the first multi-purse smart card with an ITSO.
The smart card enables card holders to access Council services, use an
eMoney retail purse and ITSO enabled pay-as-you-go bus travel purse.
Adapted by sQuid to work on any ITSO smart card, the card allows
cardholders to pay for bus travel on over 30 Arriva bus routes across
Bolton in addition to accessing Council services and shopping at local
participating stores. Children can pay for their bus journey to school,
entrance to a leisure centre, pay for a snack, take a book out at the
library and then get the bus home without ever needing to carry cash.
UK-based sQuid “eMoney” has launched its Pizza Hut branded pre-pay
contactless smartcard for customers at stores in Dundee. The “eMoney”
smartcard uses contactless payment, combining âÂÂpay as you go’ with a
loyalty email voucher scheme, allowing customers to redeem the rewards
in-store. sQuidcard provides contactless eMoney services in various
networks with the flexibility to provide all prepaid card adaptation,
multi-purse technology and is compatible with transport smartcard
applications, including ITSO. This offers an advantage over bank cards
and loyalty schemes. All sQuid eMoney cards are accepted at the
participating Pizza Hut Delivery stores.
Domino’s Bolton franchise is
introducing its own branded smart card payment system using London-based
sQuidcard’s tap-and-go eMoney technology. Domino’s customers can
register their cards online and then view their
transactions, top-up their card and receive special deals by email. They
can also top-up their card in-store and at the other numerous locations
using sQuid. sQuid has a multi-purse capability and is compatible with
ITSO (transit)
schemes. sQuid operates enhanced security between the card, the terminal
and the payments engine, and allows additional functions to be delivered
to the card holder and the retailer. This enables a sQuidcard to be used
not only for low value purchases but also as a pre-pay transit card.
The Bolton franchise of listed company Domino’s Pizza is the first in
the chain to adopt the sQuid technology.
