Chase Paymentech merchant acquirer and payment processor kicked-off its “Safetech Encryption” in Canada to help protect merchants and consumers from payment card fraud and data theft for POS retail customers. The “Safetech Encryption” technology is meant to secure cardholder data for card-present transactions and eliminate the processing, transmission and storage of unprotected payment card account information on retailers’ systems. The encrypted data is then transmitted to Chase Paymentech, where it is decrypted and processed through the payment brand networks.

Available to Chase Paymentech Canada POS retail customers, Safetech Encryption is breakthrough technology designed to secure cardholder data for card-present transactions. It is meant to eliminate the processing, transmission and storage of unprotected payment card account information on retailers’ systems. The customer’s card data is encrypted and formatted so that the retailer’s POS systems process the transaction in typical fashion, but the card data is rendered useless to any other person or system that obtains it.

program in CAD$25 and CAD$50 increments. The gift card can be
redeemed for full or partial value throughout Ontario at POS terminals
at the Wine Rack retail locations. Research shows that 69% of shoppers
plan to give gift cards during the 2007 holidays while 39% would prefer
to receive them. Wine Rack has over 160 locations throughout Ontario
and is a division of Vincor Canada while Chase Paymentech Solutions
offers payment solutions for wireless terminals, electronic gift card
programs and e-commerce.

Tim Horton’s customers can now pay with their MasterCard and
MasterCard “PayPass” with the newly introduced Chase Paymentech
at 2,200 Canadian locations. This development is in response to
research indicating that almost half of adults carry $20 or less in their
wallet and that 86% want more cashless transactions. Tim Horton’s
has 2,724 restaurants in Canada and 340 in the United States. Chase
Paymentech is a payment processor and a single source for debit and
all major credit cards. It also provides payment solutions such as point-
of-sale and wireless terminals, electronic gift card programs and secure
e-commerce capabilities.

As a result, Chase is gearing-up to upgrade checkouts and point-of-sale devices to accept chip cards by then. Chase Paymentech processed approximately 15.5 billion transactions in 2005, with more than $560 billion in annual bankcard and debit volume in both Canada and the United States. Chase Paymentech’s customer base includes more than 600,000 merchants, with nearly 1 million locations across Canada and the United States.
