Spire Payments appointed Kamran Yazdanjoo Head of Global Product Development. Kamran brings to the role over 25 years’ experience and will be responsible for co-ordinating development activities in Spain, England, Scotland, Hong Kong and Russia, and spearheading the delivery of platforms and applications to support the company’s payment solution strategies. Before joining Spire Payments, Kamran served on the Board of Directors of Cubic Transportation Systems Limited as Director of Open Payments. In this role he led new product innovations and the strategy for open payments including mobile and NFC. Prior to this, Kamran was the Vice President of Global R&D at VeriFone Inc., with responsibility for products and services.
Perpetuating a six-year partnership, MasterCard selected the Kalixa Group to issue a version of its award winning Kalixa Pay prepaid card to every newly accredited acquirer for testing. The card enables live testing of MasterCard acceptance – including online and PayPass transactions – to ensure a simple, seamless and secure integration process for every new acquirer joining the MasterCard network. The Kalixa prepaid card, allows testing in live-mode across any kind of payment acceptance including POS, ATM, stand alone and integrated terminals. Foreign currency transactions, and Chip and PIN authentication capabilities can also be tested using the card. Additionally, the Kalixa card will be used during MasterCard’s Acquirer-End-to-End-Demonstration (AETED) service, delivered by MasterCard accredited service providers to acquirers.
MasterCard and Vincento Payment Solutions extended their five-year strategic partnership agreement and will continue collaboration to bring innovative prepaid solutions. The deal will enable all new cardholders to benefit from MasterCard PayPass ‘Tap & Go’ technology on their Kalixa prepaid cards. This after the partnership enlisted LAKS to launch ” Watch2pay” prepaid contactless wristwatch, which enables consumers to make fast, secure payments for up to GBP15 within seconds with a simple tap of their wrist.
Emirates NBD has launched its “DoubleSecure” service designed to enhance the security of existing Emirates NBD Credit and Debit Cards. The service, which has been launched in partnership with Visa and MasterCard, lets Emirates NBD Cardholders to use a personal password to further protect online transactions by adding an extra layer of security. The “DoubleSecure” service is available through ‘Verified by Visa’ and MasterCard “SecureCode” global anti-fraud systems of Visa and MasterCard, and is available only on merchant sites supported by these systems. It requires customers to confirm their identity as the authorised cardholder and ensures that the purchase can be completed only with password identification.
Emirates NBD has teamed with Emirates Skywards and Visa to launch a co-branded credit card that earns air miles. The new “Emirates Bank Skywards Visa Infinite” and “Emirates Bank Skywards Platinum Visa” offers introductory bonus miles, miles earned on each purchase, complimentary “Skywards Silver Membership,” airport lounge access and range of concierge services, among other perks. The “Emirates Bank Skywards Visa Infinite” offers 75,000 introductory bonus miles and the ability to earn up to three “Skywards Miles” for every USD 1 spent on the card. “Emirates Bank Skywards Platinum Visa” rewards the
customer with 1.5 “Skywards Miles” for every USD 1 spent in addition to
25,000 introductory bonus miles. Emirates NBD is the largest banking group in the region.
Dubai First has launched its flexible interest “Business Credit Card”
for consumers in the region in association with Visa International for
acceptance at more than 22 million locations. In doing so, the Dubai
First “Business Credit Card” is offering flexible financing options to
businesses with financial flexibility using an interest rate mechanism
as low as 1.33% per month, a rewards program allowing for points
redemption for cash, services or free offers and a draft facility
feature allowing for card use anywhere. Additional features include
access to a dedicated personal account manager, special discounts and
privileges, discounts on UAE Gate Card, business secure insurance and
information support. Around the world, small and medium sized
enterprises’ spending have been growing at an average rate of 14%
annually with an estimated spend of US $4.2 trillion in 2006.
Emirates Islamic Bank (EIB) & Skywards have partnered to Launch the
“EIB Skywards VISA Credit Card”, the first Islamic co-branded airline
card available to UAE consumers. Combining payment products with EIB
and Emirates Airlines value options, the credit card affords cardholders
convenience, security and the opportunity to earn “Skywards miles”,
catering to consumers in the UAE market. When used to conduct payment
transactions, benefits of the card include rewards such as free travel and
upgrades to consumers.
Experian’s PriceGrabber.com’s latest “Consumer Behavior Report” shows a 92% increase in merchant referrals over the past six months to retailers in the online furniture category and a 50% increase in merchant referrals for online major appliances. Although furniture traditionally is a look and feel purchase, consumers now are willing to purchase items such as sofas, patio furniture and tables online in addition to buying from a brick-and-mortar store. From shopper behavior over the past few months, it appears that shoppers are doing their homework by researching online for sales, lower tax rates and free shipping. PriceGrabber.com, part of Experian InteractiveSM, has established itself as one of the most trusted and effective online comparison shopping services, allowing approximately 21 million consumers each month to search and compare information that enables them to find the right product from the right retailer at the best price.
Mashreqbank, in partnership with MasterCard International and VISA
International has launched the UAE’s first “Black Platinum” card.
The new “Platinum Card” is fully chip-enabled and incorporates all the
features of premium credit cards plus numerous loyalty rewards for
shoppers. Cardholders will receive exclusive vouchers for
shopping and dining. Mashreqbank was the first bank to introduce credit
cards in the UAE and also is the only bank in the country offering the
benefits of fully enabled microchip card technology, which it introduced
to the market with the launch of “WOW! Credit Cards” in 2004.
Experian has acquired Los Angeles-based PriceGrabber.com for $485 million plus expenses. PriceGrabber.com will become part of Experian Interactive, which currently includes LowerMyBills.com, MetaReward, Affiliate Fuel, ClassesUSA.com and Experian Consumer Direct. The PriceGrabber.com database contains millions of products in more than 20 categories, such as consumer electronics, clothing, photography, computers, office products, software, toys, home and garden and video games. The company also powers comparison shopping on more than 300 Web sites. This year, PriceGrabber.com estimates sales to be $60 million. PriceGrabber.com was founded in 1999 and employs 140 people.
UAE-based Mashreqbank has launched its first “Black Platinum VISA/MasterCard” credit cards geared towards senior businessmen, according to this week’s issue of CardFlash International. New cardholders receive a a complimentary Mont Blanc “Meisterstuck” pen as a welcome gift and the first 500 cardholders also receive a free stretch limo ride anywhere in the UAE. Additionally, “Black Platinum” cardholders receive exclusive vouchers for shopping at Mont Blanc stores as well as special treats for dining at fine UAE restaurants. Plus, all cardholders receive complimentary valet parking at all Valtrans locations across the country. The new card carries a $150 annual fee and cardholders must have an annual income of $39,205. In 1982, Mashreqbank became the first bank to introduce credit cards in the UAE.
