VigiTrust Completes PCI DSS Road Show

VigiTrust organized its PCI DSS roadshow in Dublin, Paris and London in February 2011, which is being hailed as a success thanks to keynote speakers and timing. While EMV helps prevent some types of fraud, in order for a merchant to secure their payment data they must also adopt all elements of the PCI DSS. Focal on Data Protection and PCI DSS as comprehensive way for merchants/retailers to comply with the Irish Data Protection Act. Also addressed was tokenization as a means of further securing card data as it is being processed.

KONTIKI E-TICKETS

Contactless provider Kontiki held its 33rd conference to discuss the
goals and contents of initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry
of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS) for the implementation
of eTicketing in Germany, perspectives in developing distribution
channels for local public transport
in presentations, as well as in special and plenary discussions. These
topics were also integrated into the assigned tasks of the Kontiki
working groups Migration, Interoperability, and Mobility. The conference
included a review of the modernisation of the vehicle fleet that
included the development of a modern fare and distribution system as
well as the BOB ticket (Comfortable without Cash). A project titled ”
d(((eti,” the focus of which is the distribution of electronic tickets
via the Internet, was introduced. ” D(((eti” is developing a whole
distribution system, from route plans to fare information to ticket
purchases. The goal is to realise the system as an open source system,
which will then carry no licensing costs.

MasterCard & US Airways Launch Fall Promos

MasterCard has teamed with US Airways to offer two fall promotions. US Airways customers who book roundtrip airfare to select cities throughout Europe and pay with a MasterCard card can save up to 20% and earn up to 20,000 “Dividend miles.” Under the promotion customers can receive a 20% discount on business class or “Envoy Class” fares for travel between Sept 2nd and Nov 14th. Customers who purchase a roundtrip “Economy” ticket will receive a 10% discount. MasterCard and US Airways are also offering a 5% discount on roundtrip airfare and 5,000 bonus miles for travel to beaches in Mexico and the Caribbean. The US Airways beach discount is available to customers who book their roundtrip airfare by Sept 30th and travel between Sept 1st and Nov 14th.

Mastercard Worldwide has signed a partnership agreement with
Maestro Placido Domingo to sponsor his ÃÂ¢ÃÂAROUND THE WORLDÃÂ¢ÃÂ
tour. From the summer of 2007 until the Summer of 2009, the tour will
consist of concerts in Lisbon, Wiesbaden, Athens, Boston, Mass.,
USA; Sunrise, Fla., USA; Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; and Zurich,
Switzerland. As part of the concerts, Domingo will engage artists with
local appeal to join him on stage and to host a Gala dinner after each

ACI Worldwide Extends Processing Agreement With JCB

joint venture, known as “Falcon” and “TRIAD” decision management, to
provide banks and transaction processors with fraud and risk management.
These capabilities will be available for companies worldwide and are
designed to help banks adopt a balanced online/offline authorization
policy, reduce operational costs, minimize fraud losses, and increase
revenue. Fair Isaac’s “Falcon Fraud Manager” is a payment card fraud
detection system, protecting more than 450 million accounts globally.
“TRIAD adaptive control system” automates customer management and
account decisions and is used to manage nearly 300 card portfolios
worldwide.

The European Commission has issued a report that claims large
variations in merchant and interchange fees for payment cards, barriers
to entry in the markets for payment systems and credit registers,
obstacles to customer mobility and product tying. The Competition
Commission says it will use its powers to level the playing field in the
payment card industry. The EC says the outcome of the inquiry should
boost retail banking competition in the run-up to the creation of the
“Single Euro Payment Area.” MasterCard responded yesterday saying the
report acknowledges the positive role of the industry in creating
SEPA and that the Commission has abandoned the idea of abolishing the
interchange fee. MasterCard noted that the EC still seems to believe
that interchange fees should be reduced significantly but is
overlooking that zero or low interchange fees are often based on price
regulation, cross-subsidization or operating losses. Most importantly,
these programs do not deliver the competition throughout the value chain
that SEPA aims to achieve.
