Renesas Electronics advanced semiconductor solutions introduced its “RF21S” of the RF20 series of microcontrollers. Combines on a single chip an NFC controller supporting the ISO/IEC 18092 international standard along with secure element functionality for use in consumer electronic products such as smartphones and other mobile phones, notebook PCs, and PC peripherals, the “RF21S” integrates on a single chip an NFC controller and security functions to enable the capabilities of financial transaction cards, transit system cards, and ID cards. With the adoption of mobile phones incorporating NFC functionality having been expanding rapidly, “RF21S” replaces conventional design configurations with two separate chips for the NFC controller and security element. The “RF21S” integrates Renesas Electronicsâ RS-4 secure MCU, an NFC controller, and security functions.
Siverge Networks’ “Griffin”
flagship product has been selected by telecom provider ZTE for its multi service and wireless backhauling new products.
The Griffin family of chip solutions redefines the cost and performance for networking infrastructure, enabling customers to collapse different systems and line-cards into a single multi-service card, performing all the necessary transport and aggregation functions needed to create a bridge between legacy systems and new services and networks. The project is a joint work of a Siverge Networks partner, Comtech Broadband, a leading distributor and engineering services company in China. This is part of Siverge’s rapid penetration into the Chinese market, strengthening its technical and business presence in this important region. Siverge Networks recently unveiled its low-cost, high-performance Universal Gateway solution for mobile backhauling infrastructure and evolving Carrier networks. Vertical Payment Solutions has deployed INSIDE “Contactless Technology”
to power the “CAMPUS” cashless payments at the International School of
Bangkok. With the INSIDE “PicoPass” contactless memory card technology,
its “Accesso” desktop USB contactless reader, its “M210-2G” contactless
coupler and its “Hand’IT-2G Compact Flash” contactless reader, the
“CAMPUS” cashless payment application is to be integrated with
student/staff identity cards. This initiative will help ISB become a
cashless school by October of 2008, allowing students to purchase school
supplies and meals from campus restaurants. Also, funds can be added to
the CAMPUS smart card through its online payment gateway. INSIDE
provides advanced contactless microprocessor platforms on its more than
100 million products delivered worldwide.
Smart card specialist Gemalto reports that first quarter revenue
declined 7% to 362 million euros due to lower revenue in Mobile
Communication and Public Telephony offset by solid growth on the back of
higher microprocessor card volumes delivered for payment and pay-TV
applications. The Secure Transactions unit which includes Financial
Services and pay-TV rose 7% to 96 million euros. Deliveries of
microprocessor cards were up by 16%, driven by on-going EMV deployment,
primarily in Europe and certain Latin America countries. Average selling
prices decreased due to more intense competition in certain high growth
markets which are migrating to EMV and to a greater share of modules in
total deliveries on the back of rapid development in North Asia. The
contactless payment market confirms its strong potential with initial
launches in North Asia and the United Kingdom, and new deployments in
the USA. Gemalto is currently participating in about 20 mobile
contactless payment pilots throughout the world. For complete details on
Gemalto’s latest performance visit CardData (www.carddata.com).
