VeriFone Systems announced that Banco Nacional de Costa Rica (BNCR) has selected VeriFone’s VX Evolution line of portable EMV and NFC capable point of sale terminals to enhance payment mobility and security for merchant customers throughout Costa Rica. BNCR’s migration to VeriFone’s VX Evolution terminals will enable its merchants to accept all types of payments”including traditional mag-stripe as well as EMV and NFC”from customers at and beyond the counter while complying with PCI 3.0 standards. The bank expects to install 14,000 of VeriFone’s VX Evolution terminals each year for the next four years to its installed base of approximately 32,000 Hypercom terminals. BNCR will install PCI 3.0 certified terminals from VeriFone’s VX Evolution product line. They include the VX 520, the VX 675 and the VX 680.
Infobip mobile messaging and payments services has been credited with PCI DSS compliance certification. This is confirmation that Infobip’s SSMS complies with the stringent data security standards set by the payment card industry for handling sensitive financial information. Infobip works closely with financial institutions and banks. Its service platform processes over 1 billion transactions a month and complies with a wide range of global security requirements, offering VPN tunnelling, data masking, encryption and geo-redundancy to guarantee the highest possible levels of security and reliability. Infobip was validated as a Level 1 service provider, which is the highest security category in the PCI DSS standard. It means that compliance was validated by an external organisation, as required by PCI DSS for service providers that process more than 300,000 transactions per year. Infobip was found to be one of the few companies of its kind to fully comply with the PCI DSS requirements.

Following its success in the US, Australia, Canada and the UK, MasterPass is now debuting in Italy thanks to MasterCard’s agreements with the country’s major banks and an increasing number of participating retailers. Over 3,500 of Italy’s leading brands and companies have recognised the new business opportunities e-commerce has to offer. With digital shopping becoming an increasingly multi-channel process in Italy, MasterPass is making online purchasing even faster, simpler and more secure. Having stored their name, card and shipping details when they sign up for the service, consumers no longer need to enter them at the checkout: they simply click or tap on the “Buy with MasterPass” button and enter their password to complete the payment. This kind of simplicity is fundamental to the growth of e-commerce, now a well-established phenomenon with 3.7 million Italians making at least 10 online purchases a year and a rise in online shopping using mobile devices.

NCR Corporation and INETCO Systems Limited announced that Sinergia has chosen a combined NCR APTRA Vision and INETCO Insight® software solution to monitor real-time service delivery and improve customer service. The solution will be deployed to more than 165 rural banks and 2,000 ATMs that run on the Banche di Credito Cooperativo network in Italy. Sinergia is the result of a merger between Cesecoop, Soar, UPF and Iside Spa. The objective of the merger was to provide rural banks throughout Italy with a centralized, standardized infrastructure that makes it easy to achieve operational excellence and optimal cost-effectiveness. NCR APTRA Vision is a multi-vendor ATM management system used by financial institutions all over the world to proactively manage and improve ATM uptime and availability. The INETCO Insight transaction monitoring software complements APTRA Vision by providing real-time alerting and end-to-end visibility into consumer transactions once they are initiated at an ATM or any other customer-facing touch point such as a mobile application, kiosk or online banking application.
MasterCard’s new digital payment platform is debuting in Italy with Mediaworld, Trenitalia and Vodafone. The “MasterPass” solution will shortly be joined by Esselunga. 3,500 more retailers are also active through Banca Sella, the first acquirer bank to offer the MasterPass service to all its online clients. With MasterPass, consumers, don’t have to enter their card and shipping details each time they make a purchase from an online retailer, which is particularly important in the growing area of purchases made from smartphones and tablets. Consumers can simply click on the “Buy with MasterPass” button and enter their username and password to complete payment for a purchase. MasterPass optimizes the mobile check out experience making the small screens easier to navigate and offers the same benefits for online purchases made from PCs and tablets too.
Vipera mobile financial services has won a mobile banking contract to provide its “Motif” platform through a cooperation agreement between Vipera and the Italy office of a leading multinational professional services firm. The “Motif” solution offers a flexible and extensive mobile banking platform, which will allow the bank to offer its customers full access to their bank account details enabling them to make credit card and utility bill payments and to instantly transfer funds anywhere in the world. The project plan calls for a rapid roll-out with implementation in the early part of 2013 and offers the bank a path to further functionality available within the Motif suite.

MasterCard and Telefónica launched its “Wanda” mobile financial solution. This will provide mobile payment solutions to the over 87 million Movistar customers in the 12 markets where it will operate. These mobile payment services will be linked to a mobile wallet or prepaid account that will allow for money transfers, mobile airtime reload, bill payment and retail purchases, among other services. The mobile wallet and prepaid accounts will be available anytime, anywhere in the world.
Remittances of cash between Mexicans living in the United States and their families back home in Mexico totaled $22.6 billion in 2010. But many Latin American remittance senders living in the United States do not have a bank account, with 35 percent of Ecuadorians, 64 percent of Salvadorans and 75 percent of Mexican immigrants being unbanked. In response, the Federal Reserve Bank and the Mexican Consulate have been partnering with U.S. based financial institutions to lower the cost of sending remittances to Mexico, provide safe and affordable financial services increase the speed and safety of transactions, and reduce the number of unbanked in the U.S. and Mexico by encouraging them to work with regulated financial institution on both sides of the border.
