BattleHack 2015

PayPal and Braintree named the $100,000 USD grand-prize winner of its 2015 BattleHack Series. The 24-hour BattleHack World Finals took place at PayPal Headquarters in Silicon Valley and hosted 14 teams of developers from across the globe, all winners of their regional BattleHack competitions.

CashStar Funding

CashStar, the industry-leading provider of prepaid commerce solutions has closed o $15 million in growth capital. FTV Capital led the Series D round, joined by new investor Mosaik Partners and existing investors Passport Capital, Intel Capital, North Hill Ventures and others. This financing brings the total capital raised by CashStar to $50 million and will enable the company to continue investing in product innovation, sales and client success.

Fiserv + PBC CU

Fiserv, Inc. announced that PBC Credit Union, based in West Palm Beach, Florida, has expanded its long-term relationship with Fiserv, upgrading its DataSafe® account processing platform and adding integrated digital solutions to enhance member services. The credit union added Mobiliti™ for mobile banking, Loancierge® for Credit Unions for automated lending, Wisdom™: Accounting for comprehensive accounting and Wisdom: 5300 Call Report Assistant for call report functionality.

Checkprint & Metro Bank

Checkprint payment solutions has been awarded a contract extension by Metro Bank for cheque services. The contract extension will see Metro Bank use the latest version of The CheckPrint Solution, the innovative, secure and versatile cheque printing system, to instantly issue chequebooks to all new account holders, within minutes of them entering the store. Replenishment books, for both personal and business customers, are also provided on tight service levels from Checkprint’s fully accredited site in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

VeriFone Partners Gilbarco Veeder-Root

VeriFone Systems is partnering Gilbarco to offer next generation forecourt payment solutions and to create the largest at-pump interactive digital media network worldwide. The two companies will collaborate on future fuel dispenser payment platforms to be developed and supplied by VeriFone. The solutions will meet convenience and fuel retailers’ functionality and regulatory needs in an increasingly complex payment ecosystem, as well as offer at-pump media advertising and entertainment.Gilbarco will become the software and solutions integration lead and sales and service provider for forecourt payment systems developed under the partnership. The companies will work together to transition the payment electronics in Gilbarco’s global dispenser product lines to VeriFone technology.

Card Fraud at Record Highs

FICO published its latest map of card fraud in Europe, showing that card fraud losses in 2013 for the 19 European countries studied reached €1.55 billion. This figure was a new high, and slightly more than the previous peak in 2008, according to data supplied by Euromonitor International, a provider of global strategic market intelligence. While the UK experienced £450 million in losses, the highest level since 2008, both France and Greece had higher ratios of fraud losses to card sales, at 7 basis points (.07 percent). The fastest growth of card fraud losses in Europe occurred in Russia, where losses jumped nearly 28 percent since 2012.The UK and France suffered 62 percent of the total fraud losses for the 19 countries in the fraud map, reflecting their higher rates of card usage, which make them targets for criminals.
