Hypercom has won contracts with the Bank of the Philippine Islands
(BPI), which will now offer Hypercom card payment through its more than
800 branches. BPI will begin deploying thousands of Hypercom Optimum

The Hypercom “HyperSafe Secure” suite encrypts cardholder data during transaction processing with “EFTSec” starting at the payment terminal and ending at a trusted point where the data is decrypted. The “EFTSec” server is used by major banks with combined assets of nearly US$200 billion, and is licensed to and implemented by several major terminal manufacturers in Asia and protects an estimated 3.4 million card payment transactions every month while the “HyperSafe Secure” suite uses the proven industry standard Triple DES DUKPT algorithm and incorporates Hypercom’s full X509 public key infrastructure HyperSafe security layer in every Hypercom Optimum payment terminal.

Hypercom announced that one of the foremost banks in Asia with nearly 9 million customers and more than 800 branch offices, has selected and will deploy 26,000 “Optimum” payment systems to merchants in Indonesia. The rollout is expected to be completed by the end of this year. This latest multimillion dollar order follows the bank’s purchase of 39,000 Optimum payment systems three months ago.

Westpac Banking Orders 15,000 Hypercom Terminals

Westpac Banking ordered and will deploy 15,000 Hypercom Optimum countertop terminals to its merchants in Australia. The new Westpac Hypercom product offering features include a mains-powered, phone line-connected countertop terminal and a battery-powered mobile terminal. The order is the first of several purchases and deployments planned under the terms of a five-year agreement between Westpac and Hypercom announced in November 2009. Additionally, Hypercom, through its wholly owned subsidiary ACG, has in the last two months started providing service and support to Westpac’s entire installed base of more than 80,000 terminals.

Permata Bankhas is set to deploy Hypercom’s “Optimum T4200” payment
terminals as part of the bank’s nationwide Mini-ATM rollout. Expected to
begin next month, the first phase of the multicity rollout will consist
of more than 500 co-branded terminals ordered and supported by Hypercom
value-added reseller PT Multi Adiprakarsa Manunggal (“Kartuku”). The
Mini-ATMs are to be installed at participating retail locations to
enable the bank’s customers to complete more than 100 types of
transactions, including paying bills ranging from utility, insurance and
credit card bills, and purchasing goods and services, such as airline
tickets and mobile phone pre-paid vouchers. Permata Bank has more than
269 branch offices in 57 cities.

OPTIMUM T4200

Australian-based Westpac Banking has elected to deploy thousands of
Hypercom “Optimum T4200” countertop terminals to merchants throughout
Australia as part of a five year agreement worth about $50 million.
Terms of the agreement also designate Hypercom as the key service
provider for Westpac’s base of more than 80,000 terminals. The “T4200”
terminals have received PCI PED security approval, MasterCard Worldwide
Payment Terminal Security approval for IP and wireless communication and
EMV Level 1 & 2 certifications for chip card transactions. All models
share the same platform, user interface and software toolkit to maximize
efficiency, application portability and offer customers a broad range of
options to serve any market need. The Westpac deployment will commence
in early 2010.

Hypercom Revenues Increase 19% in 1Q/09

Leading payment terminal manufacturer Hypercom reported that net
revenue for the first quarter increased 19% to $83.6 million. Gross
profit for the first quarter was $24.3 million, compared to $19.6
million for 1Q/08. The company says revenue was abnormally low both as a
result of the periodâs traditional seasonality and as result of poor
global economic conditions and exchange rate fluctuations. On a pro
forma basis, the revenue decline compared to the first quarter of 2008
was approximately 14.5%. During the quarter, Hypercom introduced the
“HyperSafe Remote Key System”; RDM Corporation selected Hypercomâs
“HBNet” to provide high speed transaction transport services; Hungary’s
GBC selected the “Optimum T4200” card payment terminals to expand
electronic payments in Hungary and other Central and Eastern European
countries including Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech
Republic; Singapore-based AXS selected the Company to provide a high
security end-to-end technology upgrade for AXSâ more than 560 automated
self-service kiosks and Smart Transaction Systems selected Hypercomâs

Oberthur Technologies, as Managing
Director, Asia Pacific. Maupin is responsible for directing and driving
Hypercom’s sales,
service and support throughout the region. Maupin brings more than 20
years of experience in the electronic
payment, smart card and information technology industries. In his most
recent position with Oberthur Technologies, Maupin directed all
aspects of the company’s operations to the banking and financial
services, telecommunications, government and pay-TV sectors in the
region. Among his many accomplishments at Oberthur, Maupin expanded
the company’s telecom business through both organic growth and
acquisition, started the company’s in-region banking business, created
an R&D center, expanded the company’s presence from six to 13 countries
and generated a more than ten-fold revenue growth. Maupin holds a
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from
Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Ingenieurs Electriciens de Grenoble.

Manhattan DA Indicts Western Express Group

The Manhattan District Attorney has indicted seventeen individuals and one corporation on charges related to global trafficking in stolen credit card numbers, cybercrime, and identity theft. The corporation is Western Express International, formerly headquartered in mid-town Manhattan. The 173-count indictment charges that from 2001 through 2007, the defendants participated in a multi-national, internet-based criminal enterprise dedicated to trafficking in stolen credit card numbers and other personal identifiers. The group realized millions in illicit profits from the sale and fraudulent use of this personal data, with some members of the enterprise laundering these profits in a variety of high-tech ways. The indictment says the group created and participated in a computerized marketplace for the global trafficking, enabling the defendants to conduct anonymous transactions, via the Internet and by other means, using sophisticated payment schemes.
