India’s prior “white-hot” economy has been gearing down for the past three years, but so are consumer prices. The year-on-year growth in the OECD Consumer Price Index for India has dropped from 15.3% in 2009 to 10.9% this year. RAM Research projects the India CPI will increase slightly by ten basis points in the fourth quarter. So far this year, India’s Y/Y CPI was up 11.1% in June, declining to 10.7% in Sept and back up to 11.1% in October.
Malauzai mobile banking SmartApps for community financial institutions, has released “Monkey Insights,” a monthly research service based on the company’s Real-Time Experience Behavioral Analytics (REBA). Monkey Insights will reports on two indices: The Mobile Engagement Index (MEI) which tracks end-user engagement with mobile banking and the M-Money Index (MMI) that summarizes statistics related to mobile money movement such as transfers, bill payments and deposits. Malauzai will analyze the user behavior associated with more than 350,000 unique logins and nearly 52,000 registered users to provide a summary index for both engagement and money movement. The MEI shows how end-user engagement with mobile banking changes over time, exploring metrics such as login frequency, feature usage and overall end-user activity to derive a unique engagement score.
USA Technologies wireless, cashless payment and M2M telemetry solutions completed an upgrade to its “ePort Connect” service platform to support USAT’s growing base of customers and the next generation of services and emerging M2M applications, such as mobile marketing and mobile payment. The upgrade incorporates network server technology in addition to proprietary software development that markedly increases capacity and allows USA Technologies to seamlessly “add on” capacity as USAT’s connected service base expands. USA Technologies reported preliminary data for the quarter ended 3/31/2012 that indicated its connected service base had grown to 148,000 cashless and M2M connections”double what it was two years ago. Cartes in Asia and the China Information Industry Trade Association
(CIITA) have signed partnership agreements allowing CIITA the Chinese
institutional partner for CARTES in Asia. CIITA partners will organize a
China Pavilion at CARTES in Asia for its “The National Golden Card
Projects Excellent Achievements” exhibition. With this, the partners
intend to promote the applications of smart cards and RFID across
various industry sectors in China. CIITA, RFID China Alliance and Golden
Cards Project members will also be invited to participate in the China
Pavilion and other activities at CARTES in Asia, which will start on
March 16th with the opening conference and the 1st Asian SESAMES Award
The unique service for unattended, vending cashless point of sale has
beefed-up its services. USA Technologies’ upgraded “ePort Connect” will
now offer the ability to accommodate different cashless payment devices
such as MEI and CoinCo as well as the ability to utilize different
credit/debit card processors, and cashless technologies, from
traditional swipe, to contactless, NFC, and pre-paid loyalty and gift
card offerings. Also, “PCI â DSS Level 1” network security with Visa
“CISP” and “Over-the-Air Updates” for customers using “ePort” devices.
Using the “Over-the-Air Updates” feature, recently USAT instantly
updated more than 10,000 terminals wirelessly with new contactless

Precision Dynamics Corporation’s PDC Smart Kiosk won the “Best Travel/Hospitality Deployment” category. The freestanding kiosk lets guests load money onto their RFID wristband using cash, credit or debit to pay for food, promotions, memorabilia and such. MEI Retail’s self-service system Freedom Shopping received the “Kiosk Excellence Award for ‘Best New Innovation'” at the 2007 KioskCom Self-Service Expo. KioskCom awarded Freedom Shopping for its “Freedom Shopping Kiosk”, a compact, wall-mounted, self-checkout kiosk that automatically detects radio frequency identification in 10 seconds, with a thumbprint version of the system averaging less than five seconds. The unit is ideal for vendors wanting a speedy checkout without the need for security features. The system accepts all forms of payment and is being used in food service, hospitality, and other retail venues in the U.S. and Australia. MEI Conlux has acquired the assets of Las Vegas-based VTI, a provider of currency validation products. The acquisition adds the “VTI Vector” and “Matrix” products to the existing MEI “Conlux” product portfolio provided to the retail, transportation, amusement, vending and gaming markets. These two products complement existing technologies and enable MEI Conlux to offer a broader range of solutions to both existing and new customers. ValTech International designs and manufactures professional currency validation products. MEI Conlux holds the world’s largest installed base of unattended payment systems, handling over 2 billion transactions per week in 90 countries.
MEI was awarded $13 million to settle a long standing patent infringement case against Coinco. When the case was filed 14 years ago, MEI was part of Mars, Inc., but MEI is now privately owned. When Mars sold MEI in June of 2006, all currency recognition related patents were assigned to MEI. The award does not yet include interest, which is expected to be added by the court in a subsequent ruling. Six top vending companies are installing USA Technologies’ “e-Port” cashless payment technology on their vending machines to accept MasterCard “PayPass” cards and devices. North County Vending, Five Star Food Service, A & B Vending, First Class Vending, Mid-Atlantic Vending, and PGI Services are participating. These machines are part of the deployment of 5,000 “PayPass”- and cashless- enabled vending machines announced late last year. The latest rollouts follow “e-Port G6” deployments by Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, the Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the Great-Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages. There are nearly 13 million “PayPass” cards and devices issued globally, and “PayPass” is currently accepted globally at 46,000 merchant locations.
