Botswana deploys high tech ATMs in a deal with Bytes Managed Solutions, Barclays and NCR. However, substantial adjustments had to be made to the ATMs for the Botswana market. Currency note templates had to be developed and then tested rigorously for correct note detection and rejection.
Barclays Bank of Botswana has partnered with Bytes Managed Solutions, the exclusive distributor of NCR technology solutions in southern Africa, for the installation of intelligent cash deposit ATMs. Last month, the bank launched a new generation of ATMs that provide customers with convenient ways of banking outside the banking halls. The ATMs are specifically designed for high transaction usage. They accept cash deposits with real time credit capability, recycle the deposited cash, dispense cash, do cheque deposits, and offer a broad range of other services, such as bill payment, funds transfer, mobile phone top-up and mini-statements.
BPC Banking Technologies Open System e-payment solutions for the global financial industry won a contract to supply a new ATM network management solution with Golomt Bank. With the highest number of card merchants and the widest card acceptance in the payments card sector, the Bank has a 60% market share of card transactions. Golomt Bank tapped BPC’s “SmartATM” solution to manage its ATM network across the country. The Bank has achieved its leadership position by setting new standards in the local financial services industry, using new technologies and pioneering innovative, cost effective ways of expanding business and creating new products to benefit customers. The new solution will allow Golomt Bank to significantly improve its ability to service and monitor its terminal networks.
Some of the initiatives that demonstrate teh Absa commitment to sustainable innovative solutions include contactless payments; in-store Banking; remote Account Opening App; Absa “CashSend;” and “Pay in Your Currency. The mobile phones will become the key device for making payments, with 44% of urban mobile-phone users now access banking services via phones. Customers aged between 26 and 34 years are the highest users at 41%, while 11% of people older than 45 utilise it.
Lloyds TSB launched its enhanced Mobile Banking service, available across a wide range of smartphones allowing Internet Banking customers to access their money and manage their accounts. Customers can access Mobile Banking through their smartphone’s web browser – simply by logging on with their existing Internet Banking logon details. The new service provides Lloyds TSB customers with the ability to view account details and balances on Lloyds TSB personal accounts, savings accounts and credit cards; see mini-statements (last six transactions) on Lloyds TSB personal current and credit card accounts; pay bills or existing recipients; set up new payment recipients; transfer funds between Lloyds TSB personal accounts or savings accounts; and check credit card limits.
BPC Banking Technologies Open System e-payment solutions for the global financial industry reports that Akibank is now live on its SmartVista solution running an end-to-end in house processing center. BPC implemented a number of products from the SmartVista suite to replace the Bank’s legacy system, which was costly to run and too inflexible to meet current business needs. SmartIssuer now drives all aspects of the issuing business including product development, card production and complete cardholder relationship management. AKIBANK has one of the largest card bases in the Region and is now benefiting from competitive advantage, improved customer service and lower operating costs for its card management systems.
US Bank, Monitise Americas and Fis partnered to offer “ReliaCard” a new mobile app for U.S. Bank ReliaCard Visa cardholders in 16 states. The “ReliaCard” is a prepaid, reloadable card for those who receive recurring cash disbursements from a government agency, giving cardholders in various government programs convenient, free access to their accounts anywhere and anytime using their mobile phone. The new app allows ReliaCard cardholders to check their balance, pay bills, receive account alerts and view mini-statements on-the-go with ReliaCard mobile banking and can be downloaded by cardholders at reliacard.com. Cardholders can use the ReliaCard everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted worldwide, as well as most ATMs.
The U.S. Bank “AccelaPay” reloadable prepaid mobile banking application has been honored as the “Best in Category for Virtual or Mobile Prepaid Application” at the 2011 Paybefore Awards. U.S. Bank was selected by a panel of five industry experts who served as judges for the Awards, which recognizes the best products and programs in the prepaid business. In January, judges chose three (sometimes four) winners in 17 different categories. These winners then vied for “best in category” distinction at an awards ceremony March 7.This is the fourth Paybefore award for U.S. Bank. UK-based Monitise Mobile Money solutions has launched its US mobile money app for Android handsets. The apps use the company’s “Globe” technology platform to offer account balance inquiries, mini-statements, money transfer and bill payment. The new apps complement the existing suite of text, secure browser and smartphone services provided in the US by Monitise.
U.S. Bank is using FISâ mobile platform to launch mobile financial services for the “U.S. Bank AccelaPay” Visa prepaid card program. This will allow “AccelaPay” cardholders to use their mobile phones, including BlackBerrys and iPhones, to check their account balance, pay bills, receive account alerts and view mini-statements. The “AccelaPay” card functions as a traditional bank account allowing users to make deposits and pay bills. Adding mobile access to the platform allows U.S. Bank to tap the underbanked segment. Cardholders can use the AccelaPay Visa® card everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted worldwide. FIS is provides its banking and payments technologies to more than 14,000 institutions in over 100 countries.

Providing free access to user accounts anywhere and anytime through their mobile phone, “AccelaPay” mbanking, the service will be introduced to the U.S. Bank “ReliaCard” Visa program this month and to other prepaid card products in the coming months.
