My Mobile Payments mobile payment service provider launched ‘Money-on-Mobile’ (MOM), an M-Wallet service which permits a mobile phone subscriber to purchase a wide range of goods and services using the mobile phone instead of paying by cash, cheque, debit or credit cards, for the Indian market. The ‘MOM’ platform allows the Indian consumer to load their mobile phones with cash of various denominations, minimum being INR 20, at retail touch points and then use this virtual money to top-up any prepaid mobile recharge and DTH recharge, pay postpaid mobile bills, utility bills such as electricity and gas and purchase airline, bus and movie tickets. MOM’s service operates independent of the consumer’s mobile operator or bank, and hence any mobile subscriber can avail of its services through the SMS or mobile application-based platform. ‘MOM’ is focused on the unbanked market that has no alternate to payments except cash.

Guaranty Bank is enhancing online security to protect customers from cyber thieves targeting online banking users of ACH and wire transfer services, offering commercial customers IronKey’s Trusted Access. This gives them secure access to the bank’s site at the point most vulnerable to malware attacks — the customer’s PC. The industry analyst firm Gartner estimates that cybercriminals have robbed banks, businesses and municipalities in the U.S. of more than $3 billion using financial malware. IronKey Trusted Access will be required for all cash management customers and offered to all business banking customers.
Eight credit unions have signed on to begin offering the Coopera Card in 2012. A reloadable Visa prepaid card built specifically for the Hispanic community, the Coopera Card provides financial institutions with a tool for attracting new members and earning additional interchange income. The prepaid card gives Hispanic cardholders access to a secure financial management tool and eliminates the need for paying high fees for check-cashing, money order or money transfer services. A credit history is not required and alternative forms of ID are accepted to obtain the card. The Coopera Card was developed by Coopera in partnership with sister company and card processor The Members Group (TMG) to help credit unions ease members of the Hispanic community into the financial mainstream.
