Mumbai-based Money-On-Mobile continues to rack up strong numbers in usage for its mobile payments service. The company, a subsidiary of Dallas-based Calpian, had 8.3 million total users in February, with 4.04 million repeat users.
Mumbai-based Money-On-Mobile reports 7.9 million users in September. Money-On-Mobile is a mobile payments service provider for Indian consumers.
Dallas-based global mobile payments technology specialist and processor, Calpian is set to support Apple Pay and provide merchants with access to Apple’s new mobile payments ecosystem. Calpian will integrate Apple services into its point-of-sale payment hardware and software, and provide its merchant clients with the tools and support they need accept payments over Apple’s NFC-based payment solution.

My Mobile Payments Ltd (MMPL) mobile payment service provider has received the RBI’s go-ahead to launch financial services on mobile phones. “Money on Mobile” (MoM) electronic prepaid payment instrument for the mobile phone is set to offer mobile phone users the flexibility and convenience to top up their talk time, DTH account, buy air, bus or movie tickets anytime, anywhere using the mobile platform. MoM service operates independent of the consumer’s mobile operator or bank, and hence any mobile subscriber can avail of its services.
Financial Information Network and Operations (FINO) has launched its
“Fino-Tatkaal” biometric authentication-based transaction remittance
services for its smart card solution to efficiently connect remitter and
beneficiary. Additionally, the service enables domestic and
International remittance using its own fast, safe, inexpensive delivery
channel currently available in Shivaji Nagar and Dharavi in Mumbai
through the Union Bank Of India. The “Fino-Tatkaal” convenience and cost
effectiveness has already made it popular among the migrant worker
community. FINO is available through 1200 locations in 16 states with
4000 Business Correspondent( Bandhu) in India. The FINO multi-bank
promoted company provides smart card based multi application solutions
to unbanked consumers in banking, microfinance, insurance and government.
Mumbai-based ICICI Bank and Indiatimes have teamed to launch a co-branded rewards credit card. The new “Indiatimes ICICI VISA” offers 10% cash-back on most online purchases made on the Indiatimes shopping portal. The card also produces 5% cash-back on air travel tickets sold via the Indiatimes shopping portal. Additionally, cardholders are eligible for discounts up to 40% on certain Indiatimes purchases. Furthermore, cardholders earn four reward points for every Rs 200 spent at Indiatimes. The points are redeemable for purchases on the shopping Web site. Indiatimes has set up a special section on its Web site, called “ShopMore” which is for the exclusive use of “Indiatimes ICICI VISA” cardholders. There are currently 1.8 million consumers shopping on the entire Indiatimes Web site which includes more than 500 merchants.
Mumbai-based HDFC Bank has launched a new credit card for small and
medium sized businesses. The new “HDFC Bank Powerplus BusinessCard”
offers a total credit limit of Rs 25 lakh which may be set at Rs 5 lakh
for each employee. The interest rate on balances is 1.5% monthly. The card
also features a number of reporting options. HDFC is targeting SMEs that
have been in business for at least three years.
VISA International announced the launch of its new TV commercial featuring Hollywood actor Richard Gere, currently being aired
in the Asia Pacific region. Filmed in India, the central theme of the new “Birds” commercial is the spirit of generosity and the giving spirit demonstrated through the ritual of
letting birds go free to bring good luck to a relative or friend
embarking on a journey, a ritual that runs across several different
cultures in the Asia Pacific region. Mumbai-based Ranjit Barot composed the music for the commercial, which was produced and developed by VISA’s advertising agency BBDO Clemenger, Australia with support and collaboration from Stratum Films of Mumbai. In Asia Pacific, 62% of all card purchases at the point of sale being made using VISA cards. There are currently 238 million VISA-branded cards in the region. In 2004, US$475 billion was spent at point of sale or withdrawn from ATMs in Asia Pacific using VISA cards.
Jodhpur in Rajasthan was the location for the filming of VISA International’s new TV commercial which features Richard Gere. The commercial will be aired across Asia Pacific. India will be the first market to go on-air in both English and Hindi on all major channels.
