Vodafone Romania has teamed with the digital money transfer service WorldRemit. Through Vodafone M-Pesa, WorldRemit customers can now send instant money transfers to any Vodafone customer in Romania.

MasterCard appointed Tim Murphy to general counsel and chief franchise officer and will sit on the Executive Committee. Murphy, 46, joined MasterCard’s Law department in 2000 and became senior vice president and associate general counsel in 2003. In 2006, Murphy was named group executive, Customer Business Planning and Analysis, and was president of MasterCard’s U.S. Region from 2007 to 2009. Murphy then became chief product officer, responsible for leading the management, development and commercialization of MasterCard’s core payment solutions. Also, Craig Vosburg will assume the role of chief product officer after holding the role of group executive, U.S. Market Development. Mike Cyr, group executive, U.S. Markets Customer Delivery, will now become responsible for U.S. Market Development; and Jennifer Rademaker, group head, Core Products, Europe, will become group executive, U.S. Markets Customer Delivery, and now joins the company’s Operating Committee.
MasterCard announced that Alfredo Gangotena will retire as the company’s chief marketing officer, effective September 1, after nine years with the Company and having held the role since April 2010. Tim Murphy, MasterCard’s chief product officer, will add oversight of marketing to his current responsibilities on an interim basis as the search for a chief marketing officer is conducted. As chief marketing officer, Gangotena led the company’s advertising, sponsorships, promotions, research and digital marketing initiatives. Gangotena was the Global Products & Solutions lead and general manager for MasterCard Europe. Gangotena was also the senior vice president and general manager, MasterCard Asia/Pacific Region.
China CITIC Bank and MasterCard have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation in the virtual payments space within and outside China. The two parties aim to jointly develop and promote innovative products and services including Quick Response” (QR) code services, and collaborate to provide a safe and efficient payment experience for domestic and overseas cardholders and merchants. China CITIC Bank and MasterCard will leverage their core competencies and cooperate on innovations including virtual card payment technology, product development, acceptance and risk management. This alliance will enhance consumers’ e-commerce experience and provide new and innovative payment services to domestic and overseas China CITIC Bank cardholders. Tim Murphy, Chief Product Officer of MasterCard, and Zhu Xianghuang, President of China CITIC Bank attended the signing ceremony of this MOU. This collaboration with MasterCard in the virtual payments space is yet another important step for China CITIC Bank.
Higher One financial services and data analytics launched its “OneRewards” cash back rewards program for its checking accounts for college students enrolled at partner colleges and universities. The “OneRewards” solution allows Higher One checking accountholders to receive up to 30% cash back on everyday purchases both online and in-store. The OneRewards program will be providing access to over 100,000 merchants in the network including 21 of the 25 top U.S. retailers and 45 of the top 50 online retailers including top brands like Staples.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, and Dell Home.

The Truaxis platform with the MasterCard network will allow for real-time offer delivery coupled with advanced analytics to ensure consumers get more meaningful offers, merchants gain efficiencies in driving sales and financial institutions build greater loyalty with customers. PULSE debit/ATM network extended and expanded its long-term relationship with Motorola Employees Credit Union (MECU), as MECU’s network provider for PIN debit. This provides MECU’s 39,000 members with access to POS terminals at retail locations across the U.S. through PULSE PAY®, as well as PULSE’s nationwide network of more than 380,000 ATMs. MECU, with 10 branch locations in Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts and Texas, has been a PULSE participant since 2007 and chose to expand its relationship with PULSE following a comprehensive review, facilitated by the Illinois Credit Union League Service Corporation, that included a detailed analysis of MECU’s debit program transaction history. The process confirmed that MECU achieves improved debit economics when its PIN debit transactions are routed through PULSE.

Postea partnered NCR Corporation to jointly market its POS system for international post offices and their alternate access channels. The “Reflex Retail” postal retail sales engages the customer and leverages social networks to deliver higher revenue per customer session and ease the burden of complying with government mandated documentation. It lets customers link the post office to the internet, extending a single transaction into an ongoing electronic relationship.
