New capabilities include Fully Customizable Offer Content; Real-Time Offer Relevancy; Consumer Loyalty Qualification; Multiple Redemption Options; and Support for Multiple Offers Programs.

CLEAR and Visa Partner for Visa Signature Travelers

Visa Signature account holders can now speed through airport security through its CLEAR biometric identity service partnership. Visa Signature account holders can enroll to receive discounted pricing on CLEAR membership with a six-month free trial plus $60 off the annual renewal rate of $179. CLEAR’s rapid identity technology brings speed, predictability and service back to travel. CLEAR’s kiosks and lanes are currently operational in San Francisco, Dallas-Fort Worth, Orlando, Denver, and Westchester County. Passengers access members-only lanes at security checkpoints where they verify their identity using biometrics, fingerprint or iris image.

Global Travel Spend Up 6% Y/Y

Visa account holders continued packing their bags as aggressively as they did in 2011, according to 2012 Travel Snapshots. VisaVue Travel data showed spending by Visa account holders traveling to Brazil, Canada, Mexico and United States jumped 6% to $57 billion compared to 2011. With this, China knocked the U.K. out of the top three inbound countries traveling to the U.S. for the first time since 2009, up 30% Y/Y. Visa account holders from Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the U.S. showed more interest in Japan, boosting tourism spend in the country by an average of 25% to $948M while Visa account holders in Africa dramatically increased travel spending in the U.S. 17% to $585M on their Visa accounts.

Visa to Showcase mPayments at mWorld Congress in Spain

Visa Intros Managed Mobile Service

Visa launched its plug-and-play mobile money platform, allowing financial institutions and mobile operators to offer bank-grade managed mobile financial services to consumers. This allows Visa to host and fully manage all aspects of a mobile money program on behalf of the provider, from user interface design to consumer enrollment, transactions processing, authorization, clearing and settlement. This can enable domestic-only or globally interoperable mobile money services. Users can access a financial account that is linked to their mobile phone number. From cash-in and -out transactions at agent locations, to paying bills, sending money to relatives, topping-up air time and buying train tickets, consumers can take advantage of bank-grade financial services and Visa-quality payments. Visa’s new platform is designed to comply with the regulatory frameworks established for mobile financial services for mobile network operators and financial institutions to provide local connection to Visa’s global payment network, VisaNet.

Visa Account Holders Contribute $1.4B to UK for Olympic Games

International travelers spent an additional US$716.7 million on their Visa accounts while in the United Kingdom during the second week of the London 2012 Olympic Games (July 30 – August 5), bringing the total spend on Visa accounts in the United Kingdom to more than $1.4 billion. While the biggest Visa spenders still hail from the United States, Visa account holders from Russia – one of the top 15 contributors to the London 2012 Olympic Games – have increased travel spend on their Visa accounts by more than 30 percent for the second week in a row. The top 10 contributors to the overall spend throughout the United Kingdom on Visa accounts by country/territory during the second week of the Olympics include United States ($91.0 million); Japan ($47.4 million); and France ($44.5 million). The bottom three include Germany ($33.3 million); Canada ($25.3 million ); and Sweden ($23.9 million).

Visa announced during the London 2012 Games it will showcase the latest payment innovations, namely payments via mobile phone and chip-enabled payment cards. During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Visa and its partners are enabling Visa sponsored athletes, trialists, and visitors to experience the new solution. To make purchases, consumers select the Visa icon on the Samsung device and hold the phone to a contactless payment terminal to pay. The application also users to manage their spending by checking account history and balances real time. There are around 37 million Visa payWave-enabled credit, debit and prepaid cards in circulation across Europe. Contactless cards will enable visitors to the London 2012 Games to make “wave and pay” purchases at thousands of retailers. PIN or passcode is not required for purchases below £20 (limits vary by country). By the end of 2012, Visa Europe expects to have more than 50 million Visa payWave cards in circulation in Europe.
