Cypress Controllers Allow Ezetap to Deliver Integrated mPOS

Cypress Semiconductor announced Ezetap mPOS solutions is using Cypress’s “CapSense Express” controllers in the world’s first capacitive-touch-based PIN-pad in its new MPOS device. The CY8CMBR2016 matrix keypad solution provides the Ezetap MPOS device with a durable user interface, helping it to pass all of the stringent EMVCo and PCI global certifications required for PIN entry devices. Consumer electronics and home appliances have rapidly been transitioning from mechanical buttons to capacitive touch controls. The EMV and PCI certifications are extremely strict due to the need to protect customer PINs against a broad range of attacks, while ensuring compatibility across a range of payment cards. Ezetap was able to go from concept, to certification, to manufacturing in less than a year.

ADT Launches Anti-Skimming Kit

ADT Business Solutions released its next generation of ADT Anti-Skim ATM Security solutions to help protect from ATM skimming. Its anti-skimming technology offers multilayered security to help protect ATM customers from this crime, installing inside the ATM an enhanced ADT Anti-Skim ATM Security kit. This features technology that works on all major ATM makes and models, which is triggered upon detection into the alarm mode, generating sound and visual warnings on the control unit. In alarm mode, the kit also emits an omnidirectional magnetic pulse that disrupts the normal operation of the skimming device, rendering its operation useless. Ultimately, the ADT kit provides a full range of ATM card trapping, tamper and false-front protection.

Atmel Expands ARM926-based MCU Family

Atmel Corporation microcontroller and touch technology solutions, announced five new devices to the Atmel SAM9 ARM926-based family of microcontrollers (MCUs). The new SAM9 devices target applications in industrial and building control, HVAC, Point of Sale (POS) terminals, printers and medical devices, smart grid with data concentrators, human machine interfaces (HMI) and machine-to-machine (M2M) market segments. The new SAM9G15, SAM9G25, SAM9G35, SAM9X25, SAM9X35 devices expand Atmel’s existing ARM-based portfolio by supporting a range of key technology features required for applications. These key features include replacing SDRAM with DDR2 memory for more memory-intensive applications; NAND flash support with 24-bit ECC for reduced system cost; and more communication channels including dual 10/100 Ethernet, dual CAN and up to 3x USB ports for a variety of application requirements.

Hypercom Powers Wawa’s Contactless Payments

Pennsylvania-based Wawa has purchased and installed more than 2,000 “Optimum L4100” high-speed card payment terminals with contactless payment capability at 540 retail stores in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Wawa has also named Hypercom its preferred supplier of card payment devices. The Hypercom terminals are configured to Wawa’s specifications to accept magnetic stripe credit/debit cards and smart cards as well as contactless cards or key fobs that communicate with the terminal without any physical contact.

Intel “XScale” processor; a 64K color 5.7″ 1/4 VGA screen; bi-directional, a dual-sided intelligent magnetic stripe reader; an advanced screen protection and replacement system; multiple connectivity options; and an optional contactless RFID reader. In 2000, IDP
surpassed cash for the first time as Canadians’ preferred way to pay for
purchases.

CVS to Deploy Hypercom RFID Terminals

The CVS retail pharmacy chain is deploying 12,000 Hypercom “Optimum L4100” RFID-enabled payment terminals. The terminals, configured to CVS specifications, accept magnetic stripe cards, smart cards, and contactless cards or key fobs. The “L4100” features a 200Mhz 32-bit Intel “XScale” processor, a 64K color VGA screen, a bi-directional, dual-sided magnetic stripe reader, an advanced screen protection and replacement system, multiple connectivity options and a contactless RFID reader. The RFID readers supports American Express “ExpressPay,” “MasterCard PayPass,” and “VISA Contactless” payment programs. CVS/pharmacy has 5,400 stores.

London-based Serverside Graphics has developed the ultimate in card personalization, enabling cardholders to fully design the front of their payment cards. Under the unique system, images are uploaded to a Web site and then manipulated with overlays to create a highly personalized card. The cardholder’s image is then resized, flipped, and rotated and then overlaid with branded frames. The company says the system will promote card usage through personal affinity as well as give issuers a brand opportunity. The software runs in an Internet browser through an issuer’s Web site and typically will run in-line with current production processes. The privately-held company U.K. company was founded by Tom & Adam Elgar, both technologists.
