VeriFone Systems, Inc. announced that The Jones Group Inc. has selected VeriFone solutions to enable mobile payment acceptance and enhance customer experience for its internationally recognized brands, including Jones New York and Nine West. VeriFone will upgrade the brands’ payment environments with its PAYware Mobile e210 mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) solution and the MX 915, an NFC-enabled, multi-media payment terminal.
VeriFone Systems announced its “Way2ride” mobile app that allows New York City taxi passengers to get in, tap, and get out the moment their ride is over. The “Way2ride” is available for iOS and Android smartphones, makes the taxi experience faster and easier for New Yorkers and business travelers by enabling riders to pre-load payment information and preferred tip amounts. Once inside the cab, passengers can pay at any time with a tap of their phone. At the end of the trip, riders can simply get out of the taxi and get on with their day. Digital receipts are stored in the app and accessible at Way2ride.com for easy tagging and expensing of business trips. After the New York launch, VeriFone will be expanding Way2ride acceptance throughout its network of more than 70,000 payment-enabled taxis worldwide. Way2ride uses VeriFone’s patented Zoosh sound-based technology to check passengers into their ride, allowing for secure transmission of payment information through the cloud.
VeriFone Systems appointed Marc E. Rothman executive vice president and chief financial officer and Jay Parsons senior VP, digital media and taxi operations. Rothman joined Motorola through the acquisition of General Instrument in 2000, in which capacity he oversaw all financial activities of Motorola Mobility and led the company’s spin-off transaction from its former parent and eventual sale. VeriFone Systems inked a comprehensive, long-term contract to provide credit card processing along with digital and traditional media to a Las Vegas cab company whereby it will provide nearly 100% of taxi card payment services in the city. This will generate $90 million over the term of the contract in revenue derived from equipment sales and fees from services and advertising. This deal includes advertising on the company’s airport shuttle bus service, enabling VeriFone to provide virtually blanket exposure to visitors for advertising and promotional campaigns. Cab-goers will enjoy a 10-inch tablet and make electronic payments on VeriFone’s NFC and EMV-enabled VX 820 payment solution.
VeriFone Systems announced that the first U.S. lottery ticket sale at the fuel pump was printed at a Greater Minneapolis area convenience store and gas station in November. That’s because VeriFone and partner Linq3 have implemented “play at the pump” at 9 locations in Minneapolis under auspices of the Minnesota State Lottery. At gas pumps equipped with VeriFone’s payment enabled media solution, PAYMEDIA, consumers can buy quick pick numbers for Powerball and Mega Millions drawings utilizing debit card payments at the same time they fill up their tanks. The terminals secure, PCI- and EMV-compliant payments. Winnings under $600 are automatically deposited to the debit card-linked account and consumers can check purchases on the web and sign up for mobile text notifications.
