The Commonwealth Bank of Australia is adding Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) technology to allow secure contactless payments using mobile phones with NFC. The most important of the components to be provided is G&D’s turnkey Trusted Service Manager (TSM) solution. The technology provider will be taking responsibility via the mobile network for services including the personalization of the payment function as well as management of the payment application over its entire lifecycle. Specifically, Commonwealth Bank is giving iPhone 4 and 4S owners the opportunity to transfer their MasterCard PayPass details with a special cover featuring a Secure Element. The iPhone cover, which can be ordered through Commonwealth Bank, is hooked up to the iPhone data interface and automatically communicates with the “Commbank Kaching” app installed on the iPhone.

Gemalto digital security, has launched its in-branch “Dexxis EMV” instant issuance card solution for U.S. banks. Designed to streamline and accelerate EMV migration “Dexxis” instant issuance allows banks to immediately issue and activate initial and replacement cards directly at the physical bank branch location, rather than sending personalized cards to end users via postal mail. Gemalto’s “Dexxis EMV” instant issuance introduces personalization on site, by securely performing smart card chip encoding in addition to magstripe encoding and plastic printing or embossing. The “Dexxis EMV” instant issuance solution is part of the comprehensive personalization solutions and services that Gemalto offers financial issuers all over the world.
Gemalto digital security announced Al Rajhi Bank completed the main phase of the Dexxis Instant Issuance deployment program for on-the-spot EMV card delivery. With more than 500 branches equipped nationwide and over 15,000 cards issued daily, Al Rajhi Bank embarked on the largest rollout of any smart banking card instant issuance solution. Gemalto’s unique offer encompasses highly secure EMV DDA1 payment cards, a complete, mission-critical issuance solution along with a full set of services: training, end-to-end project management, maintenance and support.
Datacard Group secure ID and card personalization solutions announced an equity investment and strategic partnership with DeviceFidelity NFC technologies and payment applications. This lets Datacard Group offer DeviceFidelity’s “In2Pay” suite of solutions which use microSD technology to transform smartphones into interactive contactless mobile payment devices. The “In2Pay” solution includes microSD cards, as well as the iCaisse”which is a microSD-enabled protective case for iPhones”that enable issuers to offer a variety of mobile payment solutions, giving consumers the flexibility to use their existing smartphone without having to change mobile phone providers or upgrade the device.
Gemalto launched its approved EMV application which will be deployed by Diners Club Spain during 2012. Gemalto is providing Diners Club Spain with consulting and personalization services, in addition to Dynamic Data Authentication (DDA) payment cards that are compliant with the Discover Financial Services D-Payment Application Specification (D-PAS). DDA is a highly secure authentication technology whereby the smart card chip creates a unique signature for each transaction that allows banks to authorize transactions more securely. With the addition of Diners Club, Gemalto now supplies EMV solutions to all international payment associations, providing a complete portfolio of secure payment applications.
Datacard Group secure ID and card personalization solutions announced Fiserv financial services technology solutions purchased the new “Flex-form” module that seamlessly integrates with the Datacard MXD card delivery system. The Datacard Group “Flex-form” module will allow Fiserv to let clients personalize and affix cards to a larger 8.5″ x 14″ card carrier size. This is ideal for applications that require larger card carriers with more real estate for robust messaging and promotional information. The “Flex-form” module and MXD card delivery system are part of the Datacard “Secure Issuance Anywhere” platform, offering customers the flexibility to issue and replace and deliver cards anytime, anywhere, with complete security.
Heartland Payment Systems Campus Solutions division and Bridgeway Solutions have been chosen as one of South Carolina’s preferred system providers for rapid, electronic disbursement of financial aid refunds and payments to students. This lets South Carolina state colleges and universities to contract with Heartland Payment Systems’ partner Bridgeway for Heartland’s “Acceluraid” efinancial aid disbursement product without having to issue a request for proposal as is traditionally required by the state. With this, students get a school-branded Discover prepaid debit card that is issued by Oklahoma-based Central National Bank.
First Data Corporation electronic commerce and payment processing and SunTrust Banks renewed their merchant services partnership, SunTrust Merchant Services. The joint venture currently serves more than 67,000 merchant locations and processes more than $29 billion in card volume every year. First Data will continue managing day-to-day operations, risk management and merchant sales activities, while SunTrust will continue to build upon the growth of the business through its client-facing channels, including its retail branch network of more than 1,650 locations throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions and wholesale-relationship sales force. First Data also provides SunTrust signature debit, credit, prepaid and commercial card processing, fraud prevention and detection, and card production services.

First Data electronic commerce and payment processing announced North Shore Bank expanded its partnership. With this, the bank will implements First Data debit processing solution, renewing its long-time membership with the STAR Network. North Shore Bank has also signed an ATM driving agreement that takes advantage of First Data’s customer relationship management offerings, such as transaction personalization and performance management.
