First of Omaha Merchant Processing, a wholly owned subsidiary of First National Bank and one of the nation’s largest card acquirers, announces the licensing and implementation of the ClearCommerce Hosting Engine to support the payment functionality of their web-based merchant customers.
The Hosting Engine will receive and process authorization and settlement requests from the application programming interface the merchant installs and integrates with the form in their web site’s shopping cart that captures the payment information from their customer.
The ClearCommerce Engine also provides the industry’s leading fraud protection solution, enabling merchants to combine merchant rules, negative lists, neural network risk scores, IP geo-location, and external service bureau data to screen and manage potentially fraudulent orders. It provides a case management user interface that allows the merchant to review the details of the order, the payment processor response codes, and the reason the order was flagged for review. By combining multiple fraud detection technologies and integrating human review, ClearCommerce Engine enables merchants to optimally manage the cost of online fraud.
“Merchants and Internet Service Providers come to us to find secure and reliable transaction processing for their online customers, and the ClearCommerce Hosting Engine provides that solution,” said Nick Baxter, president of First of Omaha Merchant Processing. “ClearCommerce shares our vision for exceptional quality and customer service, and their hosting engine technology provides an excellent match for the online processing needs of our valued clients.”
“Our relationship with an industry leader like First of Omaha allows thousands of users to have the high-level fraud protection and scalability necessary to thrive in e-commerce today,” said Robert J. Lynch, chief executive officer of ClearCommerce. “By joining forces with First of Omaha, ClearCommerce has the opportunity to provide superior e-commerce capabilities to companies reaching heavy transaction loads and in need of strong fraud protection.”

ClearCommerce Corp., a leading
provider of transaction processing and fraud protection software for
e-commerce, announced Barclaycard Merchant Services has selected and
implemented ClearCommerce’s online payment processing and fraud protection
software as part of its e-business initiative — ePDQ.
Barclay’s ePDQ product will provide online retailers with a hosted,
flexible e-commerce payment facility to enable them to trade on the Internet,
ensuring the secure transmission and custody of card data. The ClearCommerce
Engine(R), hosted by Barclaycard Merchant Services, will process all online
credit and debit card payments that occur at Barclaycard’s merchant websites
as well as provide the necessary fraud detection. Barclaycard Merchant
Services provides PDQ machines, which are used by shops and businesses to take
payment for goods by swiping the debit or credit card through the PDQ machine.
The ClearCommerce software will enable Barclaycard Merchant Services to offer
its merchants a virtual PDQ for their online stores — a natural extension to
their existing machines.
Both PDQ and online transactions are processed and handled by Barclaycard
Merchant Services. Currently, Barclaycard performs the role of acquiring bank
for a large number of manually-keyed Internet transactions. Using the
ClearCommerce Engine to drive the ePDQ initiative, Barclaycard can now manage
all aspects of security relating to the processing and transmission of data
and integrate this facility with its role as the acquiring bank.
Bill Thomson, Head of Internet Payments for Barclaycard Merchant Services
said, “ePDQ is being developed so Barclaycard Merchant Services can better
meet the demands and expectations of its merchant base by providing a simple
and effective online payment solution. By extending our role as the acquiring
bank and becoming involved at the transmission and secure transaction
processing level, we can add to the strength of our service and brand.
ClearCommerce has provided us with a highly functional solution that fits our
specific requirements to ensure ePDQ provides our merchants with highly
effective and secure online payment processing.”
Alan Scutt, vice president of ClearCommerce Europe said, “High street
stores are realizing the importance of an online presence and Barclaycard
Merchant Services is proactively addressing the needs of its merchants.
However, in order to succeed in the e-commerce market, payments must be
processed quickly and securely. ePDQ offers merchants highly effective
processing functionality and fraud protection with the security that it is
being offered by a trusted and familiar brand.”
Barclaycard Merchant Services is one of Europe’s largest acquirers and
processors of plastic card transactions. It is dedicated to providing a range
of e-commerce solutions to suit all types of business and was the first bank
to launch an Internet payment system, ePDQ. In 2000 1.2 billion purchases
were made with credit and debit cards in the 131,000 outlets belonging to
Barclaycard Merchant Services’ customers in the UK. Barclaycard Merchant
Services operates the largest on-line, real time bank owned EFTPOS (Electronic
Funds Transfer at the Point of Sale) system in the UK with a PDQ terminal base
of over 123,000.

NYCE Corp., one of the leading electronic payments companies in the United States, and ClearCommerce Corp., a provider of transaction management software for e-commerce infrastructure, announced they have signed an agreement that will expand the growth of SafeDebit. As part of the agreement, Internet merchants that use ClearCommerce’s transaction processing engine will be offered the capability to accept the new SafeDebit cards for payment. This agreement will help further SafeDebit card acceptance at participating retailers, which in turn, will add value to the efforts of the card issuing financial service community and open new channels for SafeDebit users. NYCE-innovated SafeDebit is the first convenient and portable way to make PIN (personal identification number) secured debit purchases on the Internet from any standard PC with a CD-ROM drive. It is also the only real-time PIN-based debit Internet payment method that does not require consumers to install special hardware. Under terms of the agreement, SafeDebit will be included as part of the ClearCommerce(R) Engine.
“Offering the benefits of SafeDebit Internet transactions to our worldwide merchant base is another step forward for ClearCommerce in our efforts to make online retailing as secure as possible,” said Robert Lynch, president and chief executive officer of ClearCommerce. “We’re known for providing leading-edge enhanced fraud protection for merchants, and working with NYCE to add SafeDebit is an enhancement that we anticipate will be well-received by our merchants.” Building on the successful evolution of real-time payments technology, SafeDebit works just like an ATM card for the Internet, allowing consumers to make PIN-secured purchases with funds withdrawn directly from their checking accounts. And just like an ATM card, the SafeDebit card holds consumer information in encrypted and embedded format. The data is passed via the Internet directly to existing secure online debit networks and financial institutions for authorization and settlement – the industry’s most reliable and secure technology infrastructure. As such, cardholder and transaction data is treated as securely as the billions of ATM and debit point-of-sale transactions that are made each year.
“SafeDebit was designed to facilitate convenient, efficient and secure Internet purchase transactions, particularly for fraud-wary consumers or those seeking an alternative to credit cards,” said Paul Turgeon, senior vice president with NYCE. “We’re glad that NYCE innovation has contributed to ClearCommerce’s decision to choose SafeDebit to help support its rapidly expanding e-commerce infrastructure.” The ClearCommerce Engine capabilities include: real-time transaction processing with credit card processors, fraud analysis and protection, business reports for merchants, storefront integration, application programming interfaces (APIs) to businesses’ existing ERP or inventory systems and shipping and tax calculation.
