JCB International, the international operations subsidiary of JCB Co., has started JCB merchant acquiring operations with ACLEDA Bank Plc. (“ACLEDA”). With this launch, JCB cards will be accepted at over 650 locations throughout the country. Cambodia is a rapidly growing country with more than 6% of annual economic growth rate since the beginning of 2000s, and increasing attractiveness as a new investment destination as well as other Mekong region countries. It is expected that there is growing demand for acceptance of payment cards from business visitors and tourists coming to Cambodia.
Optimal Payments announced that it has obtained principal membership status for merchant acquiring from MasterCard® Europe and Visa® Europe. The new merchant acquiring agreements are consistent with Optimal Payments’ strategy to strengthen and differentiate its products and follow the December 2012 announcement that principal membership had been obtained from MasterCard for card issuance. The agreements with MasterCard Europe and Visa Europe will allow Optimal Payments to directly acquire merchant accounts without the need for an acquiring bank, and process Visa and MasterCard payment transactions in the UK and the European Union for Optimal Payments’ merchants.
Federal Reserve Board on Wednesday issued a consent order to cease and desist and a civil money penalty assessment of $50 million against the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (RBS Group) and the Royal Bank of Scotland plc (RBS plc). The order and penalty address unsafe and unsound practices related to insufficient oversight by RBS Group and RBS plc of its U.S. dollar clearing practices and economic sanctions compliance programs. These practices involved transactions that included funds transmissions with entities and individuals subject to U.S. sanctions regulations regarding Burma, Cuba, and Iran. Under the cease and desist order, RBS Group and RBS plc must improve their programs for compliance with U.S. economic sanctions.
Monitise has deployed and launched, with regulatory approval, its globally recognised Mobile Money platform with full access for Chinese speakers. ‘Easy TopUp’ offers a simple, secure and convenient real-time mobile service to top up PCCW-HKT pre-paid SIM cards with payment taken direct from their bank account, as opposed to purchasing vouchers from convenience stores. The green light to launch the service follows the granting of regulatory approval by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and comes as Monitise joined more than 100 British companies accompanying Prime Minister David Cameron in China on a trade mission to secure new business opportunities. The service will be supported by JETCO providing access to a real-time guaranteed source of funds through its payments switching capabilities with member banks. It is based on Monitise’s proven technology platform, which accounts for billions of transactions annually and is already used by millions of consumers around the world.
