ICICI Bank UK announced the launch of a HiSAVE Remittance Account – an online savings account designed specifically for money transfers to India. HiSAVE is ICICI Bank UK PLC’s award winning range of online savings accounts and the new HiSAVE Remittance Account now joins this portfolio. This easy-access account offers the dual-benefit of far more convenient money transfers to India along with the opportunity to earn interest on the balance maintained. HiSAVE Remittance Account holders will earn 1.50% interest on any balance maintained in the account. They will also have the option to set a “Rate Block” on transfers to India, which means that customers can set a minimum exchange rate at which to transfer and ICICI Bank will ensure that money is sent only at that exchange rate or higher.
MasterCard subsidiary, Access Prepaid Worldwide announces a new partnership with British Airways to launch a new Executive Club Multi-currency Cash Passport. The partnership will allow British Airways Executive Club members to earn more Avios points, receiving one Avios point for every £1 loaded (or reloaded) onto the card. The travel card, which is available now, offers a more convenient way to make payments for Executive Club members who travel to different countries as only one card is needed for payment across certain continents and currencies. The Executive Club Multi-currency Cash Passport™ card works with the option to load up to seven currencies while locking in the exchange rate at a point in time. When used in market, the card intelligently selects the local currency to ensure the best rate. If the local currency is not on the card, funds are used from other currencies loaded to ensure the transaction is approved. The chip and PIN enabled BA Executive Club Multi-currency Cash Passport™ will hold seven currencies; EUR, GBP, USD, AUD, CAD, NZD, and ZAR.
Visa Europe and WorldPay announced that from late 2013, customers of Dixons Retail will be able to make purchases on the Currys and PC World websites using the V.me by Visa digital wallet. V.me by Visa wallet service developed by Visa Europe will be available in the UK and Spain from the end of 2013. It allows consumers to complete online transactions through the internet browser on a PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone in a simple and easy manner. Full customer card details are not passed on to the retailer, helping encourage consumers to feel safe when shopping online. In addition to the improved customer journey, the streamlined online checkout experience is also designed to reduce basket abandonment and, in turn, increase sales conversions for merchants.
Blackhawk Network and Monitise mMoney solutions announced an agreement to make mobile gift card purchasing available to consumers through certain banks and financial institutions in the United States. Prepaid gift cards from Blackhawk Network’s popular GiftCardMall™ will be available to consumers for purchase from participating banks and payment companies’ mobile wallets, powered by Monitise. With this new relationship, Blackhawk’s extensive network will integrate into Monitise’s mobile banking ecosystem, making it easier for consumers to purchase Blackhawk gift cards from popular retail brands via mobile. The new partnership provides customers with access to gift cards on the go, making these purchases convenient, building loyalty with their preferred financial institutions, and opening the door to more innovative mobile offerings.
The Nigerian National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and MasterCard announced at the World Economic Forum on Africa the roll-out of 13 million MasterCard-branded National Identity Smart Cards with electronic payment capability as a pilot program. The National Identity Smart Card is the Card Scheme under the recently deployed National Identity Management System (NIMS). This program is the largest roll-out of a formal electronic payment solution in the country and the broadest financial inclusion initiative of its kind on the African continent. FIS has been selected by Sainsbury’s Bank as the bank’s technology partner for all its retail banking operations as part of a new strategic multi-year arrangement. With this, FIS will provide real-time core banking and back-office processing support via an outsourced model on behalf of the Bank. FIS will also deliver transition support as the bank moves its back-office services from Lloyds Banking Group to FIS. FIS’ integrated solutions will support the bank’s deposit, savings, loan and credit cards accounts, and deliver seamless channel integration to enable customers to access their accounts through telephone, internet and mobile devices. The entire operation will be hosted and run by FIS in the UK.

Barclays Bank launched Barclays ETN+ Select MLP Exchange Traded Note (“ETN”) on the NYSE Arca stock exchange under the ticker symbol ATMP. The ETN is designed to provide investors with exposure to a basket of midstream US master limited partnerships (“MLPs”), limited liability companies (“LLCs”) and corporations by tracking the volume weighted average price (“VWAP”) of the Atlantic Trust Select MLP Index (the “Index”). The i-design solution provides the technology and services that transform ATM screens (and receipts) into delivery devices for interactive customer communications by financial institutions, as well as advertising space for retailers, third-party advertisers and independent ATM owners. Built on the premise of helping financial services providers, retailers and third-party advertisers make the most of existing customer communications, marketing and ad campaigns, the i-design solution repurposes the “waiting time” in a standard ATM transaction.
Oberthur Technologies has been selected by Advanced Info Service telecom operator to provide “MIFARE DESFire” secure, contactless technology embedded in an NFC SIM card. The NFC SIM card with embedded MIFARE DESFire™ technology, DragonFly, is being launched for the first time in Asia with AIS, and will enable a mobile phone to be used as an e-purse to pay for public transportation and goods in Bangkok. Service users can also directly top-up credit on their SIM card and check both their balance and transaction history using their mobile phones. This new generation of NFC SIM card, boasts increased speed, security and convenience as well as best-in-class certifications and an integrated anti-virus. The dragonFly also allows rich applications to be embarked on the SIM.
American Express appointed Anne Lauvergeon to its board of directors. Also a partner and managing director of Efficiency Capital, an investment firm that focuses on energy, technologies, and natural resources, and chairman and CEO of A.L.P. SAS, an advisory company, Lauvergeon is a member of the board of directors of Total S.A. and Vodafone Plc. She is a graduate of the École Normale Supérieure and the French National School of Mining Engineer and was awarded an honorary doctorate by London’s Imperial College. She is also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering as well as the Royal Academy of Belgium.
