Citi’s Board of Directors has nominated Franz B. Humer and Joan E. Spero as new independent director candidates to stand for election at Citi’s annual meeting of stockholders on April 17, 2012. Dr. Humer is Chairman of Roche Holding Ltd, and Ms. Spero is a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University School of International Public Affairs. Humer served as Chief Executive Officer of the Roche Group from 1998 until 2008. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Pharmaceuticals for F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Dr. Humer is Chairman of Diageo plc. Dr. Humer is the chairman of Friends of Phelophepa Foundation, the chairman of INSEAD and chairman of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. Spero is a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. From 1997 to 2008, she was the President of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Prior to that, she was the Under Secretary of State for Economics, Business and Agricultural Affairs during the Clinton Administration and had previously served in the Carter Administration as Ambassador to the United Nations for Economic and Social Affairs.
The Mobile Money Network Ltd announces that Visa Europe intends to take a 15% stake in its business, which provides mobile commerce and payments services for retailers. The investment forms part of Visa Europe’s strategy to deliver increased value for consumers, retailers and financial institutions through mobile payments. Visa Europe and MMN will implement a number of m-commerce initiatives in the UK in 2012, taking MMN’s bank-grade, interoperable infrastructure for secure, fast and simple mobile shopping to the mass market. MMN’s instant mobile checkout, Simply Tap, allows customers to easily identify and purchase a product on their mobile. Simply Tap can be used wherever a shopper sees a product they want – in print, on outdoor advertising, in-store or online – allowing the user to make an easy, secure purchase, with products delivered directly to his or her home address.
Misys treasury, capital markets and banking software solutions made available its Misys “Loan IQ 7.1” integrated, comprehensive commercial lending solution. The solution provides a foundation that will allow Loan IQ clients to consolidate loan servicing systems for bilateral lending, syndicated lending with loan trading on a single platform. Version 7 includes Misys Origination for loan origination processing, Misys Portal for Loan IQ for online management of lending activities, and improved payment processing.
Movida m-payments joint with Visa and Monitise inked an agreement with HDFC Bank to introduce its mobile payment service, letting users pay bills, top up prepaid airtime and buy tickets from their mobile phone. Implementing menu-based USSD mobile technology (protocol to communicate mobile phones with service provider computers), cardholders can access the service over Movida’s secure connection. Its secure and encompasses various security measures to maintain account integrity, including a unique PIN number set up on the phone to access the account information. Only the user’s bank-registered phone can be connected to the service.
Visa launched its mobile services, allowing financial institutions to offer their account holders account history and balance monitoring, funds transfer and real time transaction alerts on their mobile devices. Partnering Monitise, Visa enhanced its “Visa DPS” issuer processing platform to offer mobile services that are fully managed by Visa and can be accessed with any mobile device, any mobile channel, and with any eligible debit, credit or prepaid account. Additional services are currently in development including mobile check deposit, mobile (NFC) payments, mobile offers, and support for V.me by Visa, Visa’s digital wallet service.
Sage Pay payment provider, a subsidiary of The Sage Group, acquired Dublin-based card-holder-present solution provider, Integral Computers, for EUR20m. This will allow Sage Pay to provide its customers a fully integrated multi-channel payment services, letting them accept card payments however and wherever they run their business. Merchants are increasingly seeking a single payment processing supplier for both their offline and online presence, as multi-channel retailing becomes the norm and payment methods merge. The acquisition of Integral accelerates Sage Pay’s existing sexisting strategy of offering a range of powerful connected payment services, and tightening integration with Sage’s accounting solutions.
Optimal Payments online payments updated its award-winning NETELLER eWallet service. Among them, Money Transfers will now be free of charge to all NETELLER members. NETELLER members can transfer funds to anyone in over 180 countries serviced, in any of 19 currencies, with no processing fees. A foreign exchange fee is charged where applicable. Providing the Money Transfer service free of charge is one of several ways in which NETELLER is improving the experience for its members in 2012. The new rate for Money Transfers is 0%, discounted from the standard 1.9% fee.
