U.S. Bank has released a new banking application that is designed specifically for iPad users through the iTunes store. This lets customers deposit checks using the iPad’s camera, just as they can in the iPhone and Android apps, in addition to making person-to-person payments, viewing account balances and transactions, paying bills, making payments to other U.S. Bank accounts such as their mortgage and car loans, and reviewing rewards information. The iPad app was created in partnership with Fiserv using its Mobiliti platform.
U.S. Bank released its mobile banking application to significantly upgrade the mobile banking experience for all customers. Improving features and customer experience for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry, the new app, available in app stores now, begins a series of upgrades planned for U.S. Bank mobile banking over the next several months. Providing free access to user accounts anywhere and anytime through their mobile phone, “AccelaPay” mbanking, the service will be introduced to the U.S. Bank “ReliaCard” Visa program this month and to other prepaid card products in the coming months. BlackBerry and iPhone users can download the free “AccelaPay” application at accelapay.com, and all other mobile web users can access the AccelaPay mobile website at m.accelapay.com to check their balance, pay bills, receive account alerts and view mini-statements on-the-go.

Job Service North Dakota has teamed with U.S. Bank to provide unemployment insurance benefit payments electronically through the U.S. “Bank ReliaCard VISA” debit card, as of November. With the new debit card, JSND will no longer issue paper checks. Once claimants have certified and are eligible for their first unemployment insurance payment, a “ReliaCard VISA” debit card will be issued in their name and automatically mailed to them. Benefit payments will be automatically deposited to the card each time claimants certify and are eligible for benefits.

U.S. Bank reports that it has issued 10 million “VISA Gift Cards” since 2003 and will likely top 15 million during the 2006 holiday shopping season. U.S. Bank last week launched its “ReliaCard VISA” with the Oregon State Employment Department which allows the state to disperse unemployment benefit payments on a plastic card versus a paper check. The prepaid card functions like a debit card though it is not attached to a checking or savings account. Instead of cutting a check and mailing it to the recipient, the state electronically loads the payment on to the card that the recipient can use to make purchases or withdraw cash.
