Polaris Financial Technology announced Mashreq deployed its revolutionary Intellect Global Transaction Banking (GTB) platform. The integrated cash management platform through portal and backend modules allows the Bank to offer its customers’ transaction banking services on a single platform in multiple countries in the Region. PointsPay mwallet/mpayment solution was launched in October in conjunction with Etihad Airways, converting virtual currency such as miles and points into over 150 global currencies for use as payment at over 30 million merchants worldwide. PointsPay shows a rapid upswing of user adoption with 2.6% of the active program members registered; 148,000,000 points loaded (growing at 47% monthly); 3,400 prepaid cards issued; 24% of transactions carried out at merchants in store; and 83% of members remain with a positive points account balance after a transaction PointsPay was used at over 1,200 different merchants worldwide in 62 countries.
GuestLogix onboard retail and payment technology solutions to airlines and the passenger travel industry is set to deploy its onboard retailing technology and POS handheld devices to power Jet Airways’ in-flight duty free program, JetBoutique, in conjunction with Inflight Sales Group (“ISG”), a global pioneer of airline concession operations. The Jet Airways implementation represents more than 14 million annual passenger trips for GuestLogix. The Indian carrier will use the integrated solution to manage cash and credit card payments of duty free items onboard.

American Express Middle East and Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, are partnering to offer American Express Cardmembers even greater value. Cardmembers enrolled in the American Express Middle East Membership Rewards Program can now redeem their points for Oman Air “Sindbad Miles,” American Express Middle East’s tenth airline redemption partner. The rewards program offers one point earned for every dollar- or equivalent- spent on the Card. Membership Rewards points do not expire and can be redeemed across a wide selection of reward categories including flights, hotels, dining and entertainment, a variety of merchandise, and charity donations.
The State Bank of India (SBI) is all set to commence operations in Saudi Arabia. They will start soon after completion of few regulatory requirements expected in the next few weeks. Having completed all other procedural requirements and all necessary infrastructure is in place, the Bank intends to leave its mark despite some big players in the sector and stiffen competition in remittance services. All the SBI branches in India are networked, as are associate banks, and would be leveraging on network and technology platforms to transfer funds almost instantly.

Tapping the more than 6 million Saudi Arabian expatriates as the largest kingdom-wide money transfer network, MoneyGram International
has partnered with National Commercial Bank (NCB) to offer its
international money transfer service through the Bank’s 1,400 ATM
locations. Offering consumers convenience and access to money transfer
services through its network, MoneyGram transfers will be sent using
NCB’s “Quickpay” platform and initially only providing a sending option.
Thanks to the 27% foreign born Saudi Arabian population, remittances
grew to more than $17 billion in 2006. MoneyGram International has been
operating in Saudi Arabia since 1998 and is comprised of 180,000 agent
locations in 190 countries while NCB was established as Saudi Arabia’s
first in 1953.
