A Philadelphia firm has added more meaning to “Charge It” by combining complimentary phone charging with retailer’s loyalty cards. The new devices also offer data harvesting opportunities.
Barclaycard has unveiled the launch of its unlimited cash rewards credit card, the Barclaycard CashForward World MasterCard. Cardholders earn unlimited 1.5% cash rewards on every purchase and a 5% redemption bonus to use toward their next redemption every time they redeem.
Toronto-based GoldMoney, a full-reserve and gold-based financial service and technology group, reported 74,262 sign-ups in August to hit 242,264 total. Transaction volume hit CN$11,798,296 for the month.
The Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America is the latest to implement “SAIL” by VeriFone to improve troop fundraising efforts for its annual Popcorn Sale. The Dan Beard Council is distributing SAIL card readers to individual troop leaders who sign up for the program. Those troop leaders are able to instantly sign up for merchant accounts and to assign multiple users to the account so that parents of individual scouts can run card transactions on iOS and Android devices, as well as handle voided sales and refunds, without access to account administrator functions. Each troop leader will receive a free SAIL card reader that can be used across multiple devices that utilize the SAIL mobile app; troop leaders can also request up to 10 additional readers to distribute to parents.

Online payment service provider PayPoint.net announced significant
growth in revenue, profits, transaction volumes and consumer spend during
2008-09. The business reported revenues of GBP8.0 million during the year
ending 29 March 2009, a 63% increase over the previous financial
year, while transaction volumes increased by 40% and online
spending increased by 36%. Highlights of the past year include the
launch of the PayPoint.net brand following the integration of SecPay and
Metacharge; 350 new merchants secured; the partnership with PayPal; the
launch of PayCash, a service enabling shoppers to pay in cash for the
goods they buy online and extensive upgrades to PayPoint.net’s fraud
management platform for gaming providers, enabling them to set
sophisticated fraud detection rules.
Visa has unveiled a new program to offer automatic discounts at
top-tier business merchants for small business owners. The new “Visa
SavingsEdge” is now available to Visa Business cardholders with cards
issued by Chase, Bank of America, PNC Bank, Wachovia and Wells Fargo.
Merchants currently enrolled in the “Visa SavingsEdge” program range
from travel to rental cars to shipping companies and include UPS, Alamo
Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and SYX Services, an affiliate and
management services provider to TigerDirect and CompUSA. Visa says it
plans to continue to add merchant and financial institution partners
through 2009. Visa also recently expanded its direct marketing offers to
allow banks and merchants to target special promotions to a businessâs
needs on a cardholder-by-cardholder basis. “Visa Business” cardholders
now can access more than 150 discounts and other offers, including
country-specific, regional and global offers. Discounts are currently
available on products and services in 17 merchant categories and
presented in 13 local languages.
San Diego-based GreenZap has acquired 250,000 account holders previously serviced by Mazumah, an online transaction competitor bringing its total customer base to 650,000. On average, GreenZap receives more than 800 new account sign-ups each day and has been averaging monthly revenue of just over 25 cents per member. GreenZap enables any business or individual with an email address to send and receive money securely and cost-effectively online.
San Diego-based GreenZap reports that November revenues are up 300% from the prior month, with fourth quarter revenues up 48% from the third quarter. The company expects the record growth to continue as new merchants are added daily to GreenZap’s online store, where account holders can purchase thousands of brand name products and services using a portion of their rewards dollars. Individuals and businesses use GreenZap as a platform to send and receive money online via email to complete transactions in an auction or retail environment. WebCash, GreenZap’s rewards dollar, is an electronic currency that can be spent at partnering merchants and can be used to pay GreenZap transaction fees. Since opening on June 1, 2005, GreenZap has grown to over 375,000 users.
Washington-based Acceptiva is offering a 25% discount on credit card acceptance for consultants and service professionals. The creation of Acceptiva was in response to the lack of customized, branded solutions available to non-profits and service professionals in the online payment industry. The Acceptiva Online Payment Solution integrates the look and feel of the site where the payments come from, offers secure payments, and includes online payment data access. Incoming payments are sent to the seller’s checking account, and buyers know exactly what they purchased and when, as the seller’s information shows up on the buyer’s credit card statement.
Wisconsin-based USA Paycard has rolled-out its “PayCard MasterCard” prepaid payroll card issued via Genpass Card Systems. This payroll card allows employers to use direct deposit for employees who lack a traditional banking relationship. This translates into lower payroll check processing costs. There are no employer costs to the program and the cards can be used by employees for free using the ‘cash-back’ option at retail POS locations. USA Paycard is a terminal processor in the U.S. driving more than 28,000 ATMs and is the sixth largest switch processor with 360 million transactions annually.
Wells Fargo will launch a 10-year online anniversary sweepstakes tomorrow offering $100,000 in prizes for online payments, funds transfer or online statement sign-ups. In 1995, Wells Fargo became the first financial institution to introduce access to banking accounts on the Web. Online banking is now the most heavily-used channel among Wells Fargo customers. Over half of the bank’s consumer checking accounts are currently accessed online. Wells Fargo & Company is a diversified financial services company with $436 billion in assets and more than 23 million customers.
