MaxID Intros MaxIDentity Software

VA-based security provider MaxID has introduced “the MaxIDentity Suite” of software applications to verify
identity and government-issued credentials including smart cards, driverâs licenseâs and passports.
The “MaxIDentity Suite” contains a series of ready-to-use applications to
read PIV, PIV-I, TWIC, FRAC and CAC smart cards as well as passports,
ePassports, Seafarer ID cards and driverâs licenses.
The product can be purchased using the Software-As-A-Service (SaaS)
model, so organizations can pay a low monthly fee for the application
suite as an alternative to purchasing outright. The suite will be
available on the MaxID line of multimodal products including the iDL500,
iDL520, and iDL750 offerings. Beginning on September 1 a trial version
of the product will be included with each multimodal computer shipped
from MaxID which allows the user to try the application suite for 60 days before signing up for a subscription.
MaxID Corp maintains a global research and
development team. It’s advanced biometric handheld devices are
manufactured in the United States and are distributed worldwide. More
than 25,000 identity devices are being deployed worldwide by customers
such as the US Department of Defense, the US Department of Homeland
Security, border and law enforcement agencies, and power generation and
maritime facilities. The MaxIDentity Suite was jointly developed by MaxID Corp and RILEEN
Innovative Technologies, Inc. a member of MultiModal ID, LLC.

WiredBenefits to Market InComm Cards

To offer prepaid healthcare payment methods through InCommâs network of
145,000 retail stores, the processing and POS distribution provider has
inked agreements with WiredBenefits healthcare to develop and market
prepaid healthcare cards. WiredBenefitsâ reloadable prepaid cards
provide access to low-cost proprietary healthcare products and services
and can now offer healthcare spending options. WiredBenefits provides
processing technology and prepaid cards to deliver new platforms for
individualized care through end-to-end card issuance. GA-based InComm
was established in 1992 and had nearly $8 billion in retail sales
transactions processed in 2007.

Transaction Wireless Names a New CEO

CA-based Transaction Wireless has hired Bruce Springer, previously with
BidShift as CEO and Thomas Niedbalski,previously with Stored Value
Solutions, as VP, sales and marketing. Springer was president
and CEO of BidShift, a SaaS company focused on healthcare staffing. and
founded and was managing director of GreenSpring Ventures, an early
stage venture capital firm. He served as co-founder, COO and EVP of
WebMD, an internet healthcare and transaction services business.
Niedbalski joined the Company from Stored Value
Solutions (SVS), one of the world’s leading providers of gift cards and
other card-based transaction programs, where as a vice president he was
responsible for developing the mass market sales channel, the SVS
Loyalty Program, as well as leading the partnership marketing team with
responsibility for customer expansion and market development. He
was also on the Blockbuster team that pioneered the first gift card and
developed the Blockbuster Rewards loyalty program.

Comdata SVS Debuts American Idol Gift Cards

San Diego-based IdeaEdge and Comdata’s Stored Value Solutions have teamed to launched the first “American Idol” gift cards. The new gift cards provides access to music from past “American Idol” contestants and can be used to purchase Karaoke CDs of songs sung on the show by favorite “Idols,” exclusive “American Idol” apparel and accessories, a “Playstation 2” video game, and even an “American Idol”-ized monopoly game. Cards can be purchased in $25 or $50 denominations online or at select retail stores nationwide. In addition to exclusive “Idol” merchandise, each time a user redeems an “American Idol” gift card, the user will automatically be entered into a sweepstakes to win a grand prize trip for four to Los Angeles to attend the season seven “American Idol Finale” in 2008. The card is available 10,000 retail locations nationwide. There are an estimated 40 million “American Idol” fans in the USA.

SVS’ HQ Gift Cards Intros Gift Card Central

Office workers and residents in 25 of Atlanta’s class A office developments and residential condominium towers can purchase a variety of retail, dining, affinity and experiential cards at the lobby desks run by Concierge Services of Atlanta. The concept seeks to make gift card-buying even more convenient for busy corporate executives, office workers and luxury condominium residents. Stored Value Solutions provides custom gift card solutions for prepaid cards, loyalty and B2B applications and serves six of the top ten U.S. retailers, annually processing one billion transactions for 600 clients and their 580 million cardholders.

Branded Gift Card Sales Rise 40% in 2007

Gift cards carrying the MasterCard, VISA, Discover or American Express brands have grown 40% this year and are now the third most preferred type of card to receive after restaurant/fast food and department store cards. According to a recent survey by Comdata, only 14% of adults purchased cash cards for others this year while 39% of those surveyed prefer to receive a cash card. About half of retail gift card buyers prefer to purchase gift cards at the check-out with an associate, while the other half prefer using a self-dispensing kiosk or have no preference. Winter holidays and birthdays continue to dominate occasions for giving gift cards. About 10% have purchased gift cards as an employee incentive and 10% have purchased a gift card in response to an advertisement. The Comdata study as found that adults received 3.8 gift cards in the past year, the same as the prior year.

Comdata to Offer Serious DVD Gift Cards

The cards work like traditional gift cards, with payment magnetic stripes on one side and DVD content housed on the flip side. The gift cards will provide interactive multimedia content, such as music downloads, movie clips, product descriptions, educational information, catalogs, games, and more. Comdata’s platforms support both its proprietary and branded card networks, as well as card processing for all card types.

Hispanics are Most Active Gift Card Group

A new survey has found that Hispanics received gift cards with the highest average value among all ethnic groups at an average balance of $71, compared to $41 for Caucasians and $60 for African-Americans. The Comdata Stored Value Solutions fifth annual gift card survey also found that 26% of Hispanics surveyed report giving gift cards to children as a budgeting tool or in lieu of an allowance. Other findings: Hispanics are most likely to purchase gift cards for personal use; they are most likely to spend more than the value on their cards; and they buy cards with higher initial values and are most likely to reload cards. Additionally, the survey found that 71% of Hispanics prefer cards that also function as a DVD with music and 75% appreciate a card that is presented in unusual packaging.

Comdata and Qualcomm Team for Gift Cards

Comdata Stored Value Solutions has announced a strategic alliance with Qualcomm to manage gift cards via mobile phones. Comdata’s 500 major retail clients and 600 million gift card users will be able to check and store their gift card balance information using mobile phones, rather than going to the retail store, going online or calling a voice response system. The service will offer convenience to cell phone consumers and give retailers the opportunity to communicate one-to-one messages with consumers who have opted-in to receive them and are inquiring about their cash balance on their gift cards. The retailer now has an opportunity to drive incremental traffic to its store by positioning a “call to action” message along with the gift card balance to the shopper who has opted in to receive such messages.

Gift Card Load Values Jump This Year

A new survey has found that the average amount loaded to cards has increased by 32% over the past three years. Also, for the 2007 holiday season, the average gift card purchaser expects to spend $203 on gift cards, up from $186 in 2006. The Comdata survey found that 38% of those surveyed who have never purchased a gift card are very or somewhat likely to purchase gift cards this holiday season, representing an 81% increase in new card users over last year. About 53% of card users often or always spend more than the amount originally loaded onto their cards. They are also most likely to redeem their cards over two visits, increasing store traffic and the potential for sales over the value of the card. Nearly 85% purchase gift cards because they want the recipient to be able to select their own gift, while 57% don’t know what to buy. Last year, 94% of purchasers bought cards at a specific retail location. In 2007, only 88% prefer a specific location.

Nearly All Teens Have a Gift Card Experience

A new survey shows that 98% of all teens between the ages of 14 and 19 have either bought or received a gift card. The national “Teen Gift Card Survey,” commissioned by Comdata Stored Value Solutions, also found that teens purchased almost double the number of gift cards they did in 2006 (7.6 vs. 4.3 cards – a 77% increase). Further, the average loaded dollar amount on cards given went from $28 to $33. Teens also reported that 46% of the presents they give are gift cards – a 12% increase from 2006. Males are still more likely to give gift cards than females. Also, gift card malls, a collection of various retailers’ gift cards typically found in convenience or grocery stores, continue to gain acceptance. Forty-five percent (up from 29% in 2006) of teens say they have purchased a gift card at a gift card mall and 21% (up from 11% in 2006) say they prefer to buy them there.

Ceridian Boots its Comdata President

Ceridian announced that Gary Krow, EVP of Ceridian and President of Comdata has been terminated for violations of Ceridian’s “Code of Conduct.” Krow allegedly had unauthorized meetings with and disclosure of confidential information to Pershing Square Capital and other third parties. Information about the misconduct came to the attention of the Board through documents and testimony provided in legal proceedings commenced by Pershing Square. Jim Burns, EVP and President of Ceridian has been appointed Interim President of Comdata, effective immediately. Robert Skiba, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Comdata Stored Value Solutions and Brett Rodewald, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Transportation Services Division, will now report directly to Mr. Burns.
