Synovus Bank recently launched a new Mobile Banking App which offers Mobile Deposit, a service that allows customers to make deposits with their smartphones; Pay People, an on-the-go service that allows mobile customers to send money to individuals via an email address or cell number; and Instant Balances, which gives customers the ability to check account balances without logging into their account.
An increasing number of U.S. issuers are bottom fishing for new cardholders with a secured credit card. The target market is not limited to the financially challenged but also includes prepaid card users.
TSYS announced the appointment of Paul M. Todd as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective July 1, 2014. Paul Todd has served as executive vice president for strategy, mergers and acquisitions, product and marketing since 2008. Over the past four years, Todd directed TSYS’ diversification strategy that included four acquisitions in the direct merchant acquiring business and TSYS’ largest acquisition, NetSpend, which occurred last year. He has been the key driver in developing strategies to lead TSYS into new and faster growing sectors and markets. Prior to 2008, Todd was President and Chief Executive Officer of Synovus Financial Management, a unit of Synovus Financial Corp.
TransFirst has teamed up with the GeeBo app, a secure, cashless mobile shopping solution designed to protect the credit card information of customers. The GeeBo app is a secure, end-to-end payment processing solution that allows convenient, cashless shopping for consumers directly from their smartphone or mobile device. Through the Quick Check feature on the app, a customer logs into their account and enters the merchant’s Quick Check store number. The user-friendly wallet service enables shoppers to pay for goods and services without swiping, faxing or handing over their credit card at the point of sale. The secure GeeBo app securely stores payment credit card information so there is never a need to carry cash or to show a payment card to a participating merchant. Customers can shop knowing that their personal information is protected and secure.
Synovus Bank made available its prepaid Synovus Connections Card at all Synovus Bank divisions as a payment alternative to a traditional checking account. The Synovus Connections Card works like a check card, but there is no checking account or credit check required. The card is appealing to customers with a specific need for a prepaid card, and as an affordable option for individuals currently paying check cashing fees because they do not have a checking account. The Synovus Connections Card allows customers to get cash at the ATM, make purchases most everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, get cash back at point of sale, and make purchases online or over the phone. The card can be reloaded with no fee at any Synovus Bank division branch with cash and through direct deposit.
NACHA added State Bank and Trust Company as a Direct Financial Institution Member. NACHA oversees the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network, utilized by all types of financial institutions as a safe, secure, and reliable network for direct account-to-account consumer, business, and government payments, and annually facilitates billions of Direct Deposit via ACH and Direct Payment via ACH transactions. State Bank may now vote directly on Rules ballots, nominate candidates to serve on NACHA’s Board of Directors, and participate in NACHA Councils, along with other 47 direct members, consisting of 30 financial institutions and 17 regional payment associations.
Synovus Bank partnered Wincor Nixdorf to invest in 200 new Deposit Automation ATM machines for the Synovus Bank network. With these new touch screen units, customers will be able to deposit up to 50 bills or checks into a single slot in any direction; the imaging technology will instantly present a digital copy of the checks on the screen; and the ATM will calculate and verify the entire deposit amount. The cash portion of any deposit will be immediately available for customer’s use, and they will have the option of receiving text and email receipts of their transactions.
Green Dot low cost banking and payment solutions to a broad base of U.S. consumers, has acquired certain processing and hardware assets of eCommLink (ECL) for $2.5 million in cash. This asset purchase will allow Green Dot to continue its strategy of vertical integration by bringing key remaining elements of transaction processing in house, thereby reducing reliance on third parties. Green Dot currently uses TSYS for portions of its transaction processing and payment network connectivity, but will eventually transfer it to its in-house processing solution built on the assets acquired from ECL.
