Infinite Peripherals, Inc. (IPC) today introduced the Infinea BluePad, a mobile payment solution that includes PIN entry, a contact chip smart card reader and a magnetic stripe reader with Bluetooth connectivity. Compatible with iOS and Android (OS 2.1 or higher), the Infinea BluePad can operate either as a stand-alone mobile device or as a companion to IPC’s mobile peripheral devices, including the Linea Pro® and Infinea Tab,® which work with Apple®’s iPod touch®, iPhone® and iPad®. The Infinea BluePad features a tactile keypad with 10 numeric and six functional keys, as well as smart card and magnetic stripe readers with three-track hi-coercivity bi-directional reading capabilities. One of the key differentiators that makes the Infinea BluePad product line versatile yet affordable is that IPC does not require a transaction or fee-based contract in order to acquire the device.

The newest members of its 4-D Touch family have been unveiled by Semtech. The SX8654/55/56/57/58 are ultra low-power 4/5-wire resistive touchscreen controllers with integrated proximity sensing and haptics control for driving motors. The feature-rich controllers also come with on-chip ±15kV ESD protection making them ideal solutions for a wide variety of handheld applications such as mobile phone, tablet, DSC, handheld GPS, automotive centre consoles, and POS terminals. Many devices use the proximity of a person’s hand or finger to activate features, such as waking up a system. The SX865X controllers are the first to integrate this proximity capability into a touchscreen controller to provide a single-chip solution for a wide variety of applications such as mobile phone, tablet, DSC, handheld GPS, automotive centre consoles, and POS terminals.
Visa Europe in conjunction with Oberthur Technologies has developed a new card feature for blind and partially sighted to identify their Visa debit, credit and prepaid cards more easily to improve ease of card use for the nearly 2 million blind or partially sighted in the UK. Card issuers will now have the opportunity to offer a Visa card with a tactile mark – a clear raised varnish key line around the Visa Brand Mark – that enables blind or partially sighted people to distinguish their debit or credit card more easily from other cards in their wallets and aid positioning in payment terminals. With this, card issuers will also be able to introduce other design related elements on the card surface, enhancing the users’ identification of individual cards.
Datacard Group has made available its new laser engraving module for the “Datacard MX6000″ card issuance system that exceeds the throughput and card security standards set by government agencies and financial institutions worldwide. This allows issuers of secure IDs or financial cards to engrave images, grayscale photos, bar codes, text and other variable data making forgery and alteration nearly impossible. It offers additional highly secure personalization features such as CLI (vertical tilted) engraving, MLI (horizontal tilted) engraving, tactile elements, and microprinting ” for identification and financial cards. It integrates with existing “MX6000” systems and is most commonly used with other system modules such as color printing, magnetic stripe encoding, smart card personalization and Datacard “DuraGard” lamination.
The Hypercom “L4150” multilane payment terminal and “L4150 Secure
Keypad” have both achieved PCI PTS 2.1 approval. With both terminals
slated for exhibition at the National Retail Federation 99th Annual
Convention and Expo, January 10-13 in New York City, these developments
follow Hypercom’s receipt of the Sesame Award for the innovation of its
