Wells Fargo announced Joe Saffire has been appointed head of its Global Banking operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In his London-based role, Saffire will focus on growing the global banking business throughout the region as Wells Fargo expands its international services for U.S.-based commercial and corporate customers doing business in Europe, and for European companies with operations in the U.S. The Global Banking division provides financing options, risk and treasury management solutions, and trade finance services to middle market and large U.S. and foreign owned companies. Saffire spent 20 years with HSBC where he was most recently chief operating officer and head of international banking in Germany. A native of Buffalo, New York, Saffire received his bachelor’s degree from Boston College and an M.B.A. at the University of Buffalo.
Transaction Network Services expanded its presence in Asia with the opening of an office in Taiwan and the appointment of David Chiang as Country Manager. Opened after TNS had been granted a Type II Telecom Business license by the National Communications Commission of Taiwan, which enables it to provide international telecommunication and transactional processing services in Taiwan. TNS is working with a leading payments company in the region to migrate its business to a fully managed PCI DSS compliant service, delivering significant operational benefit and cost savings. Mr Chiang joins from Nexsys Corporation and has previously held roles with companies including Chia Hsin RMC, ComLink, E&M Technology and Kapiit Inc.
Gemalto deployed its next generation multi-application advanced smart cards technology to EasyCard Corporation allowing micropayments on the widely used transport card enjoyed by over 30 million cardholders that ride the metro in the Greater Taipei Area. The new Gemalto Celego card supports both contact and contactless functionalities, allows users to securely check their personal transaction records from the Internet, to make e-payment for government services and to conduct Internet shopping. Gemalto made available its full set of consulting services on specifications, provided operating system development and certification, and advised EasyCard Corporation on the migration path and opportunities to this new high end multi-application product. The Gemalto Celego card has obtained the Common Criteria EAL4+ top level bank security standard certification. This enables EasyCard to meet the Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission stringent requirements.
Wells Fargo & Company trade services application, “TradeXchange,” is now offered through mobile delivery. The “Mobile TradeXchange” is platform is available on the Wells Fargo CEO Mobile service, allowing customers to immediately view, import and export letters of credit and execute online queries from their smartphones. This helps importers and exporters better manage and streamline the complete trade transaction lifecycle, from purchase order issuance to final settlement. Customers and their trading partners can conveniently access and view trade transactions from their smartphones.
