Globus is making NCR self-checkout more widely available, enhancing shopper experiences and streamlining business operations. The hypermarket chain plans installations in its new markets in Krasnogorsk and Tver as well as in the chain’s existing store in Klimovsk. Globus customers have quickly embraced self-checkout. For instance, in Globus’ Vladimir store, about 15,000 customers a week are using self-checkout technology. Shoppers are migrating to self-checkout because it helps save time by scanning, bagging and paying for goods themselves. The user-friendly interface guides shoppers through each step of the self-checkout process by visual and verbal prompts.
First Data electronic commerce and payment processing is working with Foursquare to extend their already-successful Foursquare Specials for Credit Cards program to now accept Visa and MasterCard, and most debit cards. Foursquare has integrated the First DataSM OfferWiseSM solution that seamlessly allows users to sync their card, and then swipe at a participating merchant location to redeem offers and receive automatic savings. First Data merchants participating in the Foursquare Specials for Credit Cards program will now be able to drive measurable and incremental purchase volume through this expanded feature, offering secure, value-added POS convenience. The integrated, card-linked structure of the OfferWise solution combined with Foursquare Specials creates a friction-free POS experience for the consumer.
In collaboration with Etihad Stadium and Commonwealth Bank, MasterCard has launched a pilot of QkR mobile technology. This allows patrons to avoid queues and cash exchanges when buying food and drinks such as pies, chips, soft drink or cold beer and fans to concentrate on the ‘on-field’ action. This allows up to 5000 fans to order food and drinks, simply by downloading an app onto their Apple iPhone or Android smart phone, scanning or typing in the QR code on their seat, and ordering from an on-screen menu. By using the QkR digital wallet technology on their phone, food and beverage orders will then be delivered by Etihad catering staff without leaving their seat. QkR will be piloted d at Etihad Stadium with Axcess One Premium members.

Western Union and The Pantry convenience store chain forged agreements to offer the Western Union “goCASH” service, an in-lane money-transfer service from Western Union. The goCASHSM service will let consumers pay for a domestic or global money transfer while shopping at more than 1,650 Kangaroo Express stores across 13 states. The Pantry agreement builds upon Western Union’s go-to-market strategy and complements Western Union’s consumer experience. Consumers can select any of three principal amounts ranging from $50; $100; and $200, and the goCASHSM package can be purchased for both domestic and international money transfers.
Solutran announced United Supermarkets has completed implementation of its “SPIN” POS and Imaging Network solution for electronic check conversion. United Supermarket states the most valuable aspects of conversion have been the reduction of bank fees and saving time when processing and flagging bad checks. The “SPIN” POS has saved a broad spectrum of retail businesses more than 50 percent in check processing fees and can be implemented without up-front capital expenditures. Unlike traditional BOC (Back Office Conversion), the check imaging, archiving, and destruction services are outsourced to Solutran, and the MICR data capture saves costs by using existing infrastructure.
The ParTech (PAR) “EverServ” QSR point-of-sale (POS) software has been successfully implemented at two significantly different quick service restaurant locations. This demonstrates the flexibility and scalability of the solution. PAR launch partner S.L. Investments (CKE Franchisee) has implemented EverServ QSR in its Carl’s Jr. restaurant in Las Vegas, Nevada and plans to roll out the solution to 37 of its Carl’s Jr. restaurants by the end of 2010. SIP Coffee House, a single unit operator of a European style coffee house in San Antonio, Texas, has also successfully deployed the EverServ QSR solution.
