King’s Town Bank registered online banking account holders can now send and receive Western Union Money Transfer transactions internationally, The Western Union Company announced. The Western Union Money Transfer service can be accessed through King’s Town Bank’s online banking portal for the first time in Taiwan.
Meezan Bank and Western Union have entered into a collaboration under which Meezan Bank will provide the Western Union Money Transfer Service through its network of 223 online branches in 63 cities across Pakistan. Meezan Bank is the first Islamic bank in Pakistan to introduce this cross border inbound remittance service through Western Union, across 200 countries and territories to be exact. This allows Pakistanis to send money to their families without requiring a bank account and without having to pay any charges.
Western Union global payment services will offer its Account-Based Money Transfer service to Emirates NBD accountholders throughout the UAE. The agreement between Western Union and Emirates NBD marks the first time that the service is available in the UAE. The service will enable Emirates NBD accountholders to send Western Union Money Transfers directly from their bank accounts via online banking, their mobile phones and more than 700 ATMs in the region.Emirates NBD accountholders will be able to send money to anyone within the UAE and to more than 400,000 Western Union Agent locations in 200 countries and territories.

Western Union Money Transfers directly from their accounts via online

locations in more than 200 countries and territories and access the
funds via the Internet, ATMs and their mobile phones. Meanwhile, Banca
Transilvania accountholders are now able to send money directly from
their bank accounts via ATM money transfer for cash payout at 386,000
Western Union Agent locations in 200 countries and territories and
receive money from senders around the world for funds access through the
Bank’s network of 780 ATMs around the country.
Western Union global payment services has been granted license approvals from the Brazilian Central Bank to operate a commercial bank and foreign exchange brokerage firm. This allows Western Union to offer the Western Union “Money Transfer” services directly to consumers in Brazil and to introduce new financial services, including domestic money transfers, consumer bill payments and prepaid cards. Western Union has provided its international money-transfer service in Brazil since 1998, through its Agent network that currently includes nearly 6,000 bank and foreign exchange brokerage firm locations.
The Western Union Company is offering its remittance services through the State Bank of India (SBI). Consumers will now be able to make cash transfers from any Western Union location to SBI online banking-linked accounts effective early 2011 (cash-to-account). Account-Based Money Transfer forms part of Western Union’s electronic channels strategy as the company seeks to offer a variety of ways to transfer money for new and existing customers. SBI has 110 million accountholders; more than 4 million are registered for online banking. Western Union-SBI ABMT complements the nationwide network of over 12,000 SBI branches currently offering the Western Unionî Money TransferSM service.
With the number of foreign residents in Japan currently over 2 million, Western Union has been registered to operate international money-transfer services under Japan’s new Act Concerning Settlement of Funds. Western Union is the first money-transfer provider authorized to offer cash-to-cash transfers across 200 countries and territories under the new law regulated by Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA). It allows Western Union to work with companies across multiple classes of trade in addition to banks to offer Western Unionî Money TransferSM services. Upon regulatory approval, Travelex is expected to become Western Union’s first Agent under the new law to offer the Western Union Money Transfer service at Travelex stores in Japan.
Western Union global payment services has inked agreements to provide Western Union “Money Transfer” services at more than 1,800 OMV retail locations in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. This is part of Western Unionâs strategy to expand and diversify its Agent network into different classes of trade and complements the companyâs strategy to sign up retail locations under the “European Union Payment Services Directive” allowing non-bank entities to offer financial services under a payment institutionâs license. The cooperation with OMV will also help Western Union attract mainstream customers to its money transfer service, as well as promote intra-Euro and domestic money transfers.
The Western Union Company has signed an agreement with a major distribution network wit C-store chain Martin McColl. The agreement with Martin McColl represents an excellent opportunity for Western Union to expand its distribution network in the U.K., adding 700 new locations to the existing network of more than 11,000 Agent locations, consisting mainly of high-street retailers and banks and represents a significant step in Western Union’s strategy to expand its network, diversify its customer base, attract mainstream customers to its money transfer service and promote such relatively new services as European and domestic money transfers. As of September 2010, Western Union national and international money transfer services will be offered at 700 Martin McColl stores throughout the country.
