HSBC customers can now donate through ATMs

HSBC and first direct customers can now donate vital funds to the Disasters Emergency Appeal DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal via their 3789 ATM machines nationwide. This brings the number of charities benefitting from this service through the bank’s ATM’s to seven. Last year over GBP341,623 was donated through the HSBC’s machines including GBP121,950 to the DEC Haiti appeal. This year GBP68,539 was donated to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal alone. Gift Aid is an easy way for charities to increase the value of gifts of money from UK taxpayers by claiming back the basic rate tax paid by the donor. It costs the donor nothing, but as long as they are a tax payer, they could effectively increase the total amount they are donating to their charity of choice.

Wells Fargo Allowing ATM Donations for Japan Recovery

Wells Fargo customers have donated over $1 million through Wells Fargo ATMs to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund and is now accepting donations through ATMs. Through more than 9,000 Wells Fargo branded ATMs across the country, customers will not be charged any fees for using the service and 100 percent of the donation is sent to the American Red Cross. Donations may also be made via the American Red Cross website at www.redcross.org. Last week Wells Fargo contributed $500,000 to the American Red Cross to support immediate relief and recovery efforts in Japan and is matching contributions from its team members dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000, for a potential total of $1.5 million.

U.S. Bancorp Foundation to Aid Disaster Relief Efforts in Japan

The U.S. Bancorp Foundation is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with disaster relief efforts in Japan to help provide food, water, medical supplies and other services to victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami. The company is coincidentally encouraging all of its employees to make a contribution- which the Bank will match- and is waiving its minimum one-year employment requirement in order for employee donations to be matched by the U.S. Bancorp Foundation for this effort.

Cit Credit Card Points to Help Japan Relief Effort

Bank of America Accepting Donations Japan Relief

Bank of America is set to accept donations to support the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund at its more than 5,800 banking centers across the United States, for which the Bank will waive associated foreign transaction fees for credit card users sending to charitable relief efforts. This is part of Bank of America’s 100 million yen commitment to aid survivors of the earthquake and tsunami. This includes a 50 million yen grant to American Red Cross, which is working with the Japanese Red Cross Society to help meet the immediate needs of individuals and families.

American Express Contributes $100,000 to Japan Earthquake Relief

American Express Company will donate $100,000 to the Red Cross and Save the Children to support relief efforts, for which the Company will also match employee donations for relief efforts. American Express will rebate the merchant discount rate for charitable contributions made on the American Express Card directly to the U.S. entity of non-profit organizations listed on the USAID website for Japan earthquake and tsunami relief. The rebate is effective retroactively from March 11 through May 15, 2011.

Western Union Donates to Earthquake Relief Efforts

The Western Union Foundation announced a $50,000 contribution to the Mercy Corps international nonprofit organization in support of Peace Winds Japan.The Western Union Company has also set up a special account to enable consumers in the U.S. to support disaster-relief efforts in Japan. Consumers can donate to Mercy Corps by sending a no- fee money transfer using the Western Union “Quick Collect” service (code city: Japan Relief, CO) through a participating Western Union Agent location. Individuals can send up to $5,000 over the next 30 days, concluding April 14, 2011.

Visa Responds to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Visa Partners for Disaster Relief Payments

Visa and the Cash Learning Partnership have got together for the distribution of money in disaster relief faster, more effective and more secure. Beginning with a focus project in the Philippines, the partnership will support the development of knowledge and tools that will help humanitarian organizations deliver relief funds quickly and efficiently to people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. The partnership also will promote knowledge-sharing with the broader humanitarian community through the development of trainings, case studies and other resources. The Visa/Cash Learning Partnership collaboration will rely on the experience and expertise of each organization to support cash transfer programming in the Philippines ‘ a country typically at-risk for natural disasters each year.

The Western Union Foundation has pledged its series of initiatives
towards relief and reconstruction efforts in the Philippines, including
immediate direct financial support; agent fund matching for
reconstruction; employee giving; and charity drives. In conjunction with
World Vision, the foundation aims to provide immediate relief with
provisions, medical supplies and emergency bedding for 500 Filipino
families, valued at US$50,000, following recent tsunami flooding.
Charity drives are encouraging employees to donate money, supplies and
volunteer hours while Western Union employees financial donations to
World Vision are to be matched by the Western Union Foundation under the
Employee Giving Circles Program. The Western Union Foundation grant is
part of the five-year, US$50 million “Western Union Our World, Our
Family” initiative program.

According to APACS findings, donations to charitable organizations
on plastic cards reached GBP 1.013 billion for 2007, up more than
GBP150 million from the year prior, marking the first time such
statistics have been recorded. Among these increases in donations, 2.9
million
were made using debit cards, 1.3 million were made using credit cards
and the overall, average donation in 2007 was GBP44.75. A third
card option for consumer donations is provided with the affinity card,
allowing donations with every purchase made. Moreover, affinity
cards were used for GBP7.5 billion in transactions on 4.8 million
different cards throughout the year.
