VeriFone plans to expand its taxi and media services to Istanbul and throughout Mexico’s Mayan Riviera. Through this expansion, VeriFone stands to provide more than 20,000 additional taxis with secure, in-taxi and mobile payments, mobile hailing and booking, and interactive multimedia content during passenger rides.

VeriFone announced plans to expand its taxi and media services to Istanbul and throughout Mexico’s Mayan Riviera.VeriFone stands to provide more than 20,000 additional taxis with secure, in-taxi and mobile payments, mobile hailing and booking, and interactive multimedia content during passenger rides.Istanbul’s 18,000 licensed taxis will use VeriFone’s full suite of taxi payment services, including Way2ride”VeriFone’s award-winning mobile taxi app”and VeriFone’s driver-facing tablets and passenger facing payment terminals that can engage consumers with relevant content through VeriFone’s multimedia network”the VeriFone Digital Network (VNET). VeriFone expects the two-year deployment of the solutions to begin in late 2015.

GlobalPlatform Names Fresh Board of Directors

GlobalPlatform announced its Board of Directors for fiscal year 2014*, following annual elections for six of the eleven Board seats. Individual members to serve as Board Officers for a one-year term have also been confirmed, as well as the appointment of a new Mobile Task Force Chair. Marc Kekicheff – Senior Business Leader of Chip Innovation at Visa Inc. retains his position as Chairman. Uwe Wittig – Group Vice-President within the Mobile Security Business Unit at Giesecke & Devrient continues as GlobalPlatform Vice-Chairman; and Yves Moulart – Director of Development and Innovation within STMicroelectronics’ Secure MCUs Division, Integrated Secure Solutions, is again confirmed as GlobalPlatform’s Secretary / Treasurer. First-year members to serve a two-year term include Yves Moulart, Simon Moore, Solutions Architect – ARM, Rémi de Fouchier, Vice-President, Marketing Communication – Gemalto, Arnaud du Chéné, Vice President, Head of Product Quality within Global Chip & Contactless Solutions – MasterCard Worldwide and Sebastian Hans, Senior Standardization Manager – Oracle. Additionally, Jon Geater, Chief Technology Officer at Trustonic was elected to serve a one-year term.

DISCOVER SPENDING MONITOR

The Discover U.S. Spending Monitor fell 3.8 points in October to 87.9, as consumer confidence in the economy and their personal finances slid to two-year lows. The decline in confidence correlates with a drop in discretionary spending intentions in most categories surveyed. The Monitor is a 6-year-old daily poll tracking economic confidence and spending intentions…

PCI Council Highlights Changes to PCI DSS and PA-DSS

The PCI Security Standards Council published PCI Data Security Standard and Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) 3.0 Change Highlights as a preview of the new version of the standards coming in November 2013. The changes will help companies make PCI DSS part of their business-as-usual activities by introducing more flexibility, and an increased focus on education, awareness and security as a shared responsibility. The seven-page document is part of the Council’s commitment to provide as much information as possible during the development process and eliminate any perceived surprises for organizations in their PCI security planning. Specifically, the summary will help PCI Participating Organizations and the assessment community as they prepare to review and discuss draft versions of the standards at the 2013 Community Meetings in September and October.

Alliance Data Inks Private Label Credit Card Program Agreement

Zale Corporation has signed a new, multi-year private label credit card program agreement with Alliance Data Systems Corporation. Through its Comenity Capital Bank (“CCB”) subsidiary, Alliance will provide private label credit cards to customers of Zale in the United States. Following the completion of program implementation during the first half of fiscal 2014, Zale will begin to receive benefit from Alliance Data’s extensive marketing, analytical and technical services. For each of Zale’s U.S. brands, Alliance Data will provide proven marketing and database capabilities, sophisticated analytics and a suite of omnichannel marketing tools designed to generate sales and extend brand affinity. Alliance Data will also provide a portfolio of innovative tablet and mobile marketing solutions for fine jewelry that are designed to optimize cardholder acquisition and retention. In addition, Zale will receive a commencement payment in July 2013 from CCB.
