UL is pleased to introduce a new test solution that was developed together with 7Layers, for handset manufacturers and conformance test laboratories, who want to test and verify the implementation of UICC-based NFC functionality in mobile devices.
The GSMA has produced technical core requirements (TS.26 NFC Handset API & requirements) and related test cases (TS.27 NFC Test book) for testing the UICC based NFC functionality in mobile devices. GCF and PTCRB have added these GSMA test requirements into their respective certification programs. Therefore, and among other mandatory requirements, mobile manufacturers must pass these GSMA test cases using officially accredited test laboratories under these certification schemes. In order for handset manufacturers to test the behavior of their NFC device, under the conditions defined in the GSMA test cases, and to verify its compliance with the specific GCF/PTCRB certification requirements, UL and 7Layers have developed automated test platforms, that are officially validated by GCF and PTCRB.
GlobalPlatform and the Global Certification Forum (GCF) independent certification scheme for mobile phones and wireless devices have inked partnership agreements. Allowing the companies to collaborate on the optimization of testing and certification procedures, the partnership will support and accelerate the deployment of secure near field communication (NFC) services. The initial focus of the collaboration will be on mobile NFC handset compliance to reflect that GlobalPlatform’s Secure Element Access Control (SEAC) test suite has been referenced by GSMA’s TS.27 NFC Handset Testbook which is based on 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards.
ULUL is pleased to announce the qualification by GlobalPlatform of two new Collis Compliance Test Suites: GlobalPlatform SE Access Control Card and GlobalPlatform SE Configuration, which further enhances UL’s compliance test suite portfolio. The Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Secure Element (SE) Configuration implements the official test plan developed for the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program. The test suite ensures the compliance of a Secure Element that implements the GlobalPlatform Card Secure Element Configuration specification which is based on GlobalPlatform Card version 2.2.1 technology. The Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Secure Element (SE) Access Control Card Configuration implements the official test plan developed for the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program. The test suite ensures the compliance of an ARA-M applet on a Secure Element that implements the GlobalPlatform Access Control specification.
NBS Technologies announced that the host card emulation (HCE) feature of Android KitKat is now fully supported by the NBS Xpressi Trusted Service Manager (TSM). With HCE no physical secure element is required. The secure element is implemented completely in the Android application. Therefore, no UICC chip or microSD card is required and no Mobile Network Operator (MNO) involvement is required to personalize and use an NFC enabled phone for contactless payments.
GlobalPlatform has qualified the Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Common Implementation Configuration for Amendment D and E. The Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Common Implementation Configuration implements the official test plan developed for the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program. The test suite ensures the compliance of the core features of a card that implements GlobalPlatform Card version 2.2.1 technology. This includes the enhanced security options from Amendments D and E. This test suite has achieved qualified status under the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program. GlobalPlatform has extended its compliance program to provide a formal framework that enables the creation and qualification of test tools that can now be used to confirm the compliance of a card product to the association’s Card Specification and different configurations.
Beijing Unionpay Card Technology joined GlobalPlatform as a Participating Member. BCTC will make participation in the GlobalPlatform compliance program a priority, in order to work towards becoming a recognized GlobalPlatform testing laboratory. The program – through its approved laboratories, qualified test tools and established testing infrastructure – standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology and seeks to ensure the advancement and maintenance of an interoperable, sustainable and trusted end-to-end environment for managing applications on secure chip technology. BCTC will have representation in GlobalPlatform’s Card Committee and will also contribute to all aspects of GlobalPlatform’s market specific task forces. The aim of the Card Committee is to define industry and technology-neutral specifications for the secure, interoperable deployment and management of multiple embedded applications on secure chip technology.
NXP Semiconductors announced its NFC controller, PN547, is successfully integrated with Google’s latest version of the Android 4.4 operating system, ‘KitKat’. Android 4.4 now offers new platform support for NFC-based transactions through host-card emulation (HCE), allowing Android smartphone owners to use their phones to initiate a wide range of mobile applications, including payments, loyalty programs, card access, transit passes and other customized services. Support for Android 4.4 and HCE allows more consumers to experience the potential of NFC and will further expand the ecosystem. NXP has successfully demonstrated and validated multi-Secure Element (embedded SE, UICC based SE and HCE) performance on its leading NFC controllers to facilitate OEM adoption and integration. PN547 improved RF performance, easing EMVCo and NFC Forum certifications while using smaller antenna size and lowering overall solution bill of materials.
Clear2Pay today announces that EMVCo, the EMV standards body has qualified the Clear2Pay EMV Contactless Card and Device Type Approval Level 1 Test Suites. The update of the EMV Contactless Card Test Suite is particularly interesting since it now incorporates EMVCo enhanced scenarios for card emulation in mobile devices testing. Dedicated test scenarios are fundamental because a mobile device that emulates a contactless payment card typically has a more dynamic behavior than a “traditional” chip-based contactless payment card. The enhanced test scenarios simulate ‘real life’ mobile payment behavior (including the UICC) and allow for more extensive testing.
GlobalPlatform has qualified the new Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Mapping Guidelines and the Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform SWP and HCI. UL is offering a full portfolio of GlobalPlatform qualified test suites that completely ensure the interoperability of smart-cards or secure elements within the GlobalPlatform ecosystem. The Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Mapping Guidelines ensures the compliance of a card that implements the GlobalPlatform Mapping Guidelines specification and has also been designed to be compatible with other cards that implement a core set of GlobalPlatform Card 2.2.1 functionality.
GlobalPlatform has reached 100 members and has produced widely adopted specifications for secure-chips, devices and back-end systems. The infrastructure delivers a trusted end-to-end solution, which facilitates the secure and interoperable deployment and management of multiple embedded applications on secure chip technology.
