Paralan Kiosk now offers the add-on option to transactions customers via payment kiosks to integrate a tested and certified Battery Backup Power. The UPS allows existing transactions to complete when a power outage occurs and provides up to 30 minutes of automatic backup power depending on kiosk usage.
The Diebold 429 ATM intelligent-powered ATM is designed to use as little as 70 watts of power, consuming up to 40 percent less energy than other models. Currently available in the Indian market, the Diebold 429 ATM could save enough energy annually to power more than 1,200 Indian households. The Diebold 429 offers a solution for financial institutions to better serve people living in areas with limited power. In India for example, approximately 40 percent of the country’s population is underbanked. Diebold was the industry’s only global ATM provider with the ability to deliver a workable solution that met India’s uninterruptible power supply requirements. Diebold is delivering 2,100 Diebold 429 ATMs for India’s Bank of Baroda (BoB), making it possible for BoB to expand self-service options to locations – and consumers – it could not previously reach. The system automatically chooses which power source to draw from – either the internal battery or alternating current (AC) power grid – ensuring that the unit does not exceed 100 watts of power usage.
MasterCard is gearing-up to integrate all authorization transactions onto a single, global platform by the second half of next year. Towards that end, MasterCard has finalized standardized rules and capabilities for authorizing a payment card transaction and has enabled the enhancement of intelligent edge devices that exist locally at partner banks. These devices allow transactions to be managed at the edge of the network instead of requiring centralized processing through MasterCard’s own systems. MasterCard can integrate these new technologies on behalf of banks until the volume of activity warrants investment by the bank to provide the service itself. MasterCard says the global authorization platform will transitioned to all banks by late 2009.

cavion.com announced it has opened a new corporate headquarters building that features a state-of-the-art data center. The new facility is located in the Denver metropolitan area. The new data center has approximately 10 times the capacity of cavion.com’s previous data center, which was located at the company’s former headquarters building. cavion.com officials report the new facility will play a key role supporting the company’s expected growth.

The new data center went online Saturday, January 29, 2000. It incorporates many upgraded systems, including state-of-the-art physical and network security, a top-of-the-line heating and cooling system, an uninterruptible power supply, and a microwave telecommunications back-up link. The facility is designed to meet the connectivity needs of 1,000 clients and house up to 500 Internet banking servers.
The new corporate headquarters building, which includes the data center, offices and storage areas, is nearly 15,000 square feet.
“We have every intention of becoming a leading company in the credit union Internet services and business-to-business communications markets,” Selina said. “Our investment in this new data center and headquarters building will support the company as we move forward to meet our goals.”
Telecommunications services for the new data center are provided by Convergent Communications, which supplies all of cavion.com’s nationwide telecommunications needs.
cavion.com is also building two more state-of-the-art data centers at its sales offices in Livonia, Mich., and Memphis, Tenn. The two additional data centers are expected to open during the first half of this year and will provide service for regional credit union clients. They will also provide back-up services for the company’s Colorado-based data center.
