Rogers is launching the suretap wallet, a new application that lets customers use their smartphones to make payments at tens of thousands of retailers across the country. Customers can safely store eligible payment cards on their smartphone and make purchases by simply holding it up to contactless payment terminals, just like they do today with plastic credit and debit cards. Customers can add multiple cards to their suretap wallet including a Rogers Prepaid MasterCard that can be topped up with funds for mobile payments. Also available for purchase are gift cards from leading Canadian food and beverage merchants and retailers including Swiss Chalet, Milestones Grill and Bar, Montana’s Cookhouse, Harvey’s, Kelsey’s, Indigo, Earls Restaurants, Ardene, and Spafinder Wellness 365. In the future, the suretap wallet application will offer more retailer gift cards, as well as store loyalty cards, coupons and ID cards.
Visa today announced it is offering clients new options to securely deploy mobile payment programs, including for the first time an option to host Visa payWave-enabled accounts in a secure, virtual cloud. The move expands Visa’s support for mobile payments globally and will give financial institutions greater choice in offering consumers secure ways to pay with smartphones. Visa’s support for cloud-based payments follows the introduction of a new feature in the Android mobile operating system called Host Card Emulation (HCE); HCE allows any NFC application on an Android device to emulate a smart card, letting users wave-to-pay with their smartphones, while permitting financial institutions to host payment accounts in a secure, virtual cloud.
CIBC and TELUS announced the launch of the CIBC Mobile Payment App to TELUS mobile devices with Near-Field Communications (NFC) capability, allowing more Canadians to have access to mobile payments. TELUS customers using the app and a CIBC credit card account will be able to make mobile payments at many of the most popular retailers in Canada including coffee shops and grocery stores.

Capital One has signed a three-year financing services agreement with BRP US Inc. “BRP”. This new relationship reinforces Capital One’s commitment to building its private label credit card business. The contract covers revolving financing for BRP’s Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Sea-Doo watercraft and Can-Am all-terrain vehicles, side-by-side vehicles and Spyder roadsters sold by BRP dealers in the United States. Capital One’s partnership with BRP provides consumers with access to credit that can be used for accessories, services and/or vehicles at BRP dealerships. Offerings include a Life of Loan product, which is designed to be paid off over a set term, as well as promotional rate financing options, which have a low intro APR for a set period of time.
