Mformation Appoints New CEO

Mobile technology management provider Mformation Technologies has
tapped Todd DeLaughter, previously CEO at Opalis Software, as its new
Chief Executive Officer. DeLaughter will use his more than 24 years of software, IT and telecommunications experience to expand the company’s leadership position in the rapidly growing device management marketplace. He comes to Mformation with a proven track record of defining and delivering complex software products worldwide for the IT and telecommunications industries. He was most recently president and CEO of Opalis Software, an independent IT Process Automation company. His career also includes over 20 years at HP and Compaq in a wide range of executive, engineering, marketing and product management roles in North America and Europe, including leading HP’s OpenView Business Unit.

Cricket Communications Picks Vesta Corp

E-payment provider Vesta has been selected by pay-as-you-go mobile
communication provider Cricket to manage customer payments.
Vesta’s payment service will manage customer payments via the phone, Web
and in Cricket’s own retail stores. In addition, Vesta is expected to
introduce additional services such as text-to-pay and SMS payment
solutions for Cricket customers and enable
all customer transactions to be completed in a secure, convenient
environment. Vesta’s technology is also fully PCI Data Security Standard
(PCI
DSS)-compliant. The program is scheduled to launch Spring 2010.

(SHAZAM) RED

Shazam mobile music discovery provider has made available its
“(SHAZAM)RED” Special Edition App for App Store users. Those who
download the (SHAZAM)RED App, or upgrade, will have access to the same
music features as the recently launched Shazam “Encore” along with
updated content related to “(RED),” of which 20% of the purchase price
is contributed to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and
Malaria. “(RED)” is designed to create both awareness and a sustainable
flow of money from corporations into the Global Fund, to which Shazam is
the first mobile app developer to link. With this, Shazam joins the
ranks of American Express, Apple, Bugaboo, Converse, Dell, Emporio
Armani, Gap, Hallmark and Starbucks.

Research shows 60% of consumers surveyed feel immediate purchasing
rewards are the most important aspect of a promotion, while 39% would be

reward schemes. Cash back programs rose in popularity from 57% in 2007

rewards program across all age and affluence ranges, according to
research conducted by the TNS Consumer Credit Card Program Study and
Granby Marketing Services. Additional findings show, among those who do
not claim rewards on their credit and loyalty cards, 17% disclosed the
financial value of the rewards was too small, 7% simply could not be
bothered, 3% cited the length of the redemption process and 4% said it
was too difficult to redeem rewards earned.

GEMALTO & VODAFONE

Gemalto digital security and Vodafone have been awarded an Identity
Deployment of the Year Award (IDDY) for their collaborative
proof-of-concept identity application. The application enables smart
card-based strong authentication of an “OpenID” across the Internet or a
mobile network, an industry initiative to allow individuals to use the
same username and password at many different websites. For “OpenID,
Gemalto and Vodafone combined its ease of use and the security of smart
card-based two-factor authentication to provide greater personal
identity protection when accessing websites. The user has the ability to
prove their identity by entering their username and password or using
two-factor authentication with a physical device. The identity
application provides remote strong authentication services over IP
networks, wired or wireless, to allow secure access to the federated
websites.

MONTISE & PAYNET

Monitise mobile banking services has signed a joint venture agreement
with Paynet electronics payment company. With the regional mobile phone
penetration nearing 50% of the consumer population, this partnership
will allow Monitise to extend its business further into Africa and the
Middle East to offer millions access to m-banking and financial
services. This thanks to Paynet’s well-established electronic payment
network in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda that connects to 35 regional
financial institutions. In addition to providing traditional mobile
banking to bank account holders, Monitise also enables people without a
bank account to use its services with technology that works across all
