JCB Launches the True Guam Campaign

JCB has launched the “True Guam Campaign,” a cooperative destination
marketing promotion supported by the Guam Visitors Bureau. This joint
campaign, with the support of businesses and local merchants, is
designed to promote tourism and spending in Guam. The campaign will run
until May 31st. According to the Guam Visitors Bureau, approximately
950,000 Japanese travelers visit Guam each year, and each one spends an
average of USD 675 during their stay. JCB cardholder spending power is
higher than the average tourist to Guam. As a result of the “True Guam
Campaign,” JCB expects that 10,000 more cardholders than last year will
be visiting the island.

Intervoice Acquires S1’s Edify for $33MM

Intervoice signed an agreement to purchase Edify from S1 Corporation for $33.5 million in cash. The acquisition will strengthen Intervoice’s position in the voice automation market and the added revenues and resources will enable Intervoice to accelerate the development and delivery of multi-channel, automated information solutions for both its enterprise and network customers. The merger is expected to close in December 2005. Over the last four fiscal quarters, as published in Intervoice’s and S1’s respective quarterly disclosures, Intervoice and Edify had combined revenue in excess of $200 million. The Edify Corporation provides voice and speech applications. Intervoice provides platform, software, applications and services necessary to optimize voice automation solutions.

JCB’s QUICPay Seeks Standardization

The Mobile Payment Promotion Council has been established in Japan with the mission of promoting standardized mobile contactless payment systems and to promote JCB’s “QUICPay.” The executive board of the council is composed of representatives from Aeon Credit Service, Central Finance, Credit Saison, DC Card, JCB, JTB, KDDI, OMC Card, Orient Corporation, Toyota Finance Corporation, UC Card, UFJ Nicos, and Vodafone. The Mobile Payment Promotion Council believes that a standardized payment infrastructure foundation for efficient payment system operations and that an integrated environment is the key to providing the most convenience to consumers and merchants. The Council has 39 members at present, with 10 other corporations currently considering participation.

With all Royal Host and Sizzler restaurants nationwide included, 300 locations will be offering JCB’s contactless payment solution. “QUICPay,” a contactless payment solution, was launched by JCB in 2003. A part of the customer’s existing credit limit is assigned to a contactless IC chip, which may be embedded in a plastic card or in a mobile phone handset. “QUICPay” purchases are linked to the cardholder’s existing JCB credit card account.

BMO Mosaik MC Wins a Marketing Innovation Award

Unica Corporation has selected finalists from BMO Bank of
Montreal, Nationwide Building Society and Rewards Network for their
marketing achievements and innovative use of Unica’s “Affinium EMM”
suite. Each year, the Unica Marketing Innovation Awards honor companies
that utilize “Enterprise Marketing Management” technology to address
marketing challenges, drive innovation and achieve business results for
their organization. Using “Affinium,” BMO was able to increase customer
acquisition rates by 3.5% above plan, boost overall assets under
management by 10% and increase loyalty by 20 basis points.

Mobile Payment Forum Names Bakhshi to its Board

Two executives were elected to the Board of the Mobile Payment Forum at the group’s Spring Member Plenary in Tokyo. Nandita Bakhshi of First Data Mobile Solutions, the mobile payments arm of First Data, and Christopher Bierbaum of Sprint were elected to the Board. First Data and Sprint join continuing Board members American Express; JCB; MasterCard; Nokia; NTT DoCoMo; Orange World; TIM ITALIA; T-Mobile; VISA; and Vodafone. The MPF seeks to create a foundation for standardized,
secure and authenticated mobile payments.

Intervoice Renews/Expands a Major Deal

Dallas-based Intervoice, Inc., announced a leading financial services firm has selected the Omvia Voice Framework for banking and credit card service applications. Both new systems will be hosted by Intervoice. In addition, Intervoice has signed a 14-month contract extension with the same firm for existing hosted services. The combined value of the new orders and contract extension is currently estimated to be $6.5 million. Intervoice provides voice automation solutions worldwide.

First Data Names its Head of Mobile Solutions

First Data has named Nandita Bakhshi as managing director of Mobile Solutions, a new business unit focused on offering mobile payments and related services. Bakhshi joins First Data from U.S. financial services firm, FleetBoston, and will lead First Data Mobile Solutions, a business unit focused solely on mobile services, including mobile payments, prepaid top-up and mobile content. Her appointment confirms First Data’s commitment to driving the development of the mobile payments sector. First Data Corp. UT-based Q Comm International has hired Michael Keough, formerly with ClearOne Communications, as CEO and President. Previous to joining Q Comm, Mr. Keough served as Chief Executive Officer, President, and Chief Strategy Officer of ClearOne Communications, a $60M publicly traded company with 265 employees specializing in audio, video, and web- based conferencing products and services. Q Comm International provides proprietary prepaid transaction processing and information management systems that facilitate electronic recharge or distribution of prepaid products from service providers or their distributors to retail points of sale.
