Visa Simplifies Online Shopping

Visa announced the launch of Visa Checkout, a quick and easy payment service that enables consumers throughout the United States, Canada and Australia to pay for goods online, on any device. For consumers and online retailers, Visa Checkout offers an easy and secure way to pay online. Enrolling in Visa Checkout is intuitive and simple, and shoppers can use any Visa debit or credit card or even other branded cards to make purchases from a PC, mobile device or within a mobile app. Once enrolled, shoppers simply provide their username and password to complete the payment process — without ever having to leave the merchant’s website. Visa Checkout replaces the V.me by Visa service, first introduced in 2012. Leading payments card issuers, community banks, and credit unions are all participating in Visa Checkout.

MasterCard to Host Global Payments Symposium

MasterCard Announces Euro-Lab

AmEx Announces First Artist to Perform in 2012 Unstaged Series

MasterCard mPartnership Targets 1Billion User Expansion

MasterCard and Telefonica Put a Name to JV

MasterCard and Telefónica launched its “Wanda” mobile financial solution. This will provide mobile payment solutions to the over 87 million Movistar customers in the 12 markets where it will operate. These mobile payment services will be linked to a mobile wallet or prepaid account that will allow for money transfers, mobile airtime reload, bill payment and retail purchases, among other services. The mobile wallet and prepaid accounts will be available anytime, anywhere in the world.

State Card Debt Figures Released

Americans for Fairness in Lending (AFFIL) has conducted research on
median credit card debt per borrower in each of the 50 states and the
District of Columbia demonstrating credit card indebtedness has become
particularly large, especially within Alaska where the median credit
card debt is $3,384 for each borrower- $1,200 higher than any other
state. Other states leading average debt per borrower include New
Hampshire with $2,109, Connecticut with $2,094, Maryland with $2,042 and
Colorado with $2,030. States with the least amount of per capita credit
card debt include Mississippi with $1,098, Iowa with $1,135 and West
Virginia with $1,237. Americans for Fairness in Lending non-profit
organization works to end predatory lending practices, provide
information to help consumers, educate policymakers about the need for
reform and demand action to assist debt-burdened Americans.

Internet Reloadable Smart Cards

Bank of America announced Wednesday that it will launch a smart card pilot program that allows ‘VISA Cash’ stored-value smart cards to be loaded with funds via the Internet to lead to transforming personal computers and other consumer devices into home ATMs. The new smart card pilot program is expected to be rolled out to several hundred Bank of America and VISA employees beginning next month. The pilot will allow participating BofA and VISA employees to use Bank of America’s Internet ‘HomeBanking’ service to transfer funds from their checking account to a ‘VISA Cash’ stored-value chip card. The ‘VISA Cash’ smart card can then be used to make purchases from participating merchants in the physical world or from Internet merchants who have been participating in a separate Bank of America/Visa smart card program that was launched in May 1997. Pilot participants will be able to load funds onto a ‘VISA Cash’ stored-value smart card via a portable, Fischer ‘smarty’ smart card reader that can be inserted directly into a personal computer’s diskette drive. Bank of America’s Smart Card Group is working with VISA and SPYRUS to develop the ‘VISA Cash’ Internet-load pilot.
