ST&J Retail has released
the first installations of EFT Plus, a payments solution designed to
address North American Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) requirements and
deliver Chip & PIN compliance for merchants in Canada. This initial
release of EFT Plus is specifically
designed for retailers using IBM’s 4690 POS platform and addresses the
mandatory security standards introduced by Visa, MasterCard and Interac
standards designed to reduce fraud and administration costs for
merchants as well as protect cardholder information. EFT Plus was
developed based on focus group sessions with 4690 POS
retailers (approximately 20% of the POS installed base in North America
is 4690), and leverages their investment in 4690 technologies. The
solution delivers value to both merchants and consumers by addressing
Chip and PIN compliance standards including global interoperability and
streamlining the customer experience at the cash register.

Barclaycard has introduced the “Barclaycard Football” credit card targeting
the fans of the sport. The card offers 0% on balance transfers for 12
months
and 0% on season ticket purchases until the cost of the ticket is paid
in full.
Rewards are offered at up to 5% on team merchandise at retailers including
JJB Sports, Superdrug, Waterstones, W H Smith and Currys. Merchandise
for point redemption includes 1,600 points for an Adidas football, 2,000
points for a GBP 10 JJB Sports voucher and 7,000 points for a football
jersey of their choice.

UK’s HMV Passes 1MM Gift Card Milestone

HMV, the largest retailer of music, DVD and games in the U.K. has topped one million gift cards. The card was launched in October via TSYS and the Royal Bank of Scotland. The non-denominated, re-loadable cards are now available in HMV’s 200 stores throughout the UK, and can be activated in amounts ranging from GBP1 to GBP500. The parent company, HMV Group plc, also owns 189 Waterstone’s specialist book stores in the UK and Ireland, and plans to offer a Waterstone’s gift card in 2005.
