Posera-HDX Limited has completed the acquisition of the restaurant division of 2020 IT Solution of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for undisclosed terms. The 2020 solution already offers digital menu boards, web enabled video security, web-hosted restaurant back office management systems, and web-hosted employee labour analytics and scheduling solutions. It now allow quick service restaurants and table service restaurants, to control costs and effectively manage their business. The 2020 “HyperScheduler” is a hosted, subscription model, web/cloud workforce management solution which allows operators to optimize staff schedules based on a sophisticated proprietary sales and product mix forecasting model coupled with matching the most effective and efficient staff for specific positions for time sensitive duties.

NCR Launches ATM for the Blind

NCR joined social organizations to launch an ATM designed to accommodate the blind. India-based Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged and the National Association of Visually Handicapped worked with NCR to co-develop the machine, a prototype of which launched on the birthday of Louis Braille. Sightless consumers may use the ATM thanks to the auto-guidance software NCR installed in the machine, which reads out the instructions that would normally be displayed on a regular ATM, such as when to enter the PIN. One-third of all the new ATMs installed in India as of last year must be accessible to the blind under regulations from the Reserve Bank of India.

Chase Paymentech Sees Shopping Strength Demise

The holiday season has come to a close and it has been another record season for 50 of the leading U.S. online merchants a part of Chase Paymentech’s Cyber Holiday Pulse Index. From November 1 to December 31, transactions were up 37%, sales were up 25%, and average tickets declined 9% year over year. For the full month of December, transactions were up 35% and sales were up 22% from December 2010. By analyzing the actual payment activity for 50 top ecommerce retailers, the Pulse Index is a valuable tool for spotting several key online shopping trends. For example, the index has demonstrated a trend toward smaller average ticket values over the past few years. While it’s clear that the recession drove that trend for a couple of seasons, last year the data linked smaller tickets to the growing demand for digital media such as music and, more recently, ebooks.

Viableware debuted its “Rail” pay-at-the-table system that maintains the traditional look and feel of the bill presentation folder diners are used to seeing delivered to their table, with the added capabilities of a digital interface, at-the-table credit card swiping, on-the-spot digital signing, and credit card authorization. Allowing restaurant guests to self-swipe credit or debit cards, the Rail protects them from card information theft, while also enabling restaurants to streamline payment processes and generate new advertising revenues.
