HDFC Bank partners Vodafone, Launches m-banking

HDFC Bank and Vodafone India launched HDFC Bank MobileBank Account with Vodafone “m-paisa” nationally from the tehsil of Chomu. HDFC Bank has appointed a Vodafone India subsidiary company as a Corporate Business Correspondent, thereby allowing the telco’s select retailers to represent the bank as sub-agents. By providing banking transactions at such sub-agents, this HDFC Bank-Vodafone India partnership effectively delivers last mile access to remote areas and open HDFC Bank “MobileBank Account” with Vodafone “m-paisa.” This allows customers to perform basic banking transactions on the mobile phone and even deposit and withdraw cash.

Clearstream CEO to Step Down

Andreas Wolf, CEO of Clearstream Banking AG, Frankfurt, and member of the Executive Board of Clearstream International S.A., Luxembourg, will step down from both boards and leave Deutsche Börse Group, on December 31 to pursue new activities. She joined Clearstream in 2000 and occupied various management positions, including Chief Operating Officer (2007 to 2010) and Head of Product Management and Business Strategy (since summer 2010). Andreas Wolf was appointed to the Executive Board of Clearstream Banking AG in 2003 and became CEO in 2007. He has been a member of several Executive Board committees within the Clearstream Group. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the European Central Securities Depositories Association (ECSDA).

VocaLink, Clear2Pay partner to offer immediate payments

VocaLink has signed a partnership agreement with payment services provider Clear2Pay, wherein the two companies will enable banks to provide their customers with an inter-bank real-time payments service, with the inclusion of multi-channel service options such as mobile. VocaLink and Clear2Pay are now partnering to provide a service that supports real-time payment processing from the central switch thorough to a bank’s back office. The new offering allows financial institutions to integrate their systems with the Immediate Payments service to facilitate the global adoption of new payment channels, such as p2p (peer-to-peer) payments via the mobile.

Euronet Attains Payment Acquirer Status

Euronet Worldwide through its “Euronet Payments & Card Services (EPCS) subsidiary has been authorized by the Financial Service Authority (FSA) in the United Kingdom (UK) to provide payment services. This authorizes ATM and POS transaction acquiring and allows the Company to apply for direct membership with the major card schemes. Subsequently, Euronet already applied for and received membership with Visa and MasterCard for ATM transaction acquiring. The combination of the authorization by the FSA and membership with the major card schemes allows Euronet to directly process ATM debit and credit card transactions throughout most of Europe, without the requirement of a sponsor bank. Now EPCS is authorized to issue e-money products and provide payment services in the European Economic Area and payment and acquiring services in 29 European countries.

Bruce Hopkins has been named GM, Processing Solutions with Fiserv Card Services to support debit, credit and risk products and services, and manage the service delivery and payment processing functions. Hopkins joins Fiserv from FIS where he previously served as senior vice president for the Merchant Solutions division within the Retail Payments Solutions business, where he served in a variety of management roles leading payments business lines, including ATM acquiring, gateway processing, payments fraud management, biller direct payments, government payments, merchant solutions and the closed loop gift card business.
