Wincor Nixdorf 1H/11 Net Sales Up 4%

Wincor Nixdorf recorded a 4% increase in net sales for the first nine months of fiscal 2010/2011. The consolidated net sales of the IT company, which specializes in solutions designed for the branch and store operations of banks and retailers, increased in the reporting period to €1,744 million (previous year: €1,682 million). At €119 million, EBITA was slightly down on last year’s figure (€121 million), while net profit for the period was 4% lower at €77 million (€80 million). “Both net sales and operating profit are in line with our expectations,” commented President & CEO Eckard Heidloff. “We thus confirm our forecast for the year as a whole.” Wincor Nixdorf anticipates a rise in net sales of 4% for the current 2010/2011 fiscal year, while operating profit (EBITA) for the annual period is expected to match or slightly exceed the level of the previous year. In the first nine months of the fiscal year, net sales attributable to the Hardware business grew by 2% year on year to €877 million (€856 million). Net sales from Software/Services increased by 5% to €867 million (€826 million). The share of total net sales attributable to the Hardware business was slightly lower at 50% in the period under review (51%). Correspondingly, the proportion of total net sales from Software/Services rose to 50% (49%).

BNP Paribas and Orange to Launch m-banking

BNP Paribas and Orange formed a partnership and signed a trademark license agreement to launch innovative mobile banking services in November 2011. This allows the groups to share expertise in their respective areas of excellence. BNP Paribas customer advisors will be able to offer mobile banking services in all 2,250 branches. Customers will be able to access the most innovative m-banking and m-payment services to manage their accounts and make payments using their mobile phones. The aim is to equip thousands of BNP Paribas customers with smartphones over a three-year period to combine the very best mobile services and banking services.

Serverside granted Payment Card Customization patents

Serverside Group card customization has been granted two further patents by the Australian Patent Office regarding core payment card customization technology. This comes after the grant of two patents in the United States and the unamended confirmation of a further patent by the European Patent Office following opposition proceedings. The granting of the Australian patents also follows the recent commencement by Serverside of a patent infringement suit in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. Serverside’s complaint alleges that 15 parties are infringing its US patents relating to financial transaction card customization technology.

GlobalPlatform launches card qualification process

GlobalPlatform members Barnes International, Collis, and Fime, test laboratories Fime and ICT Korea are the latest to achieve GlobalPlatform qualification. Along with the previously qualified test tool provider Galitt, and test laboratories Applus+ and RFI Global, these products and services can confirm a product’s compliance to GlobalPlatform’s latest version 1.0.1 of the UICC Configuration for the mobile services sector. The GlobalPlatform Compliance Program’s objective is to ensure an interoperable, sustainable and trusted end-to-end environment for managing applications on secure chip technology. A process framework, recently released and free to download from the GlobalPlatform website, provides an outline of the procedure to be undertaken by chip / card manufacturers in order to have a qualified product.

Bank account and card fraud Grow 10% in 1H/11

Analysis of frauds recorded by Members of CIFAS indicates 111,504 confirmed frauds were recorded to the National Fraud Database by CIFAS Members in the first half of 2010; an increase of 10% compared with the second half of 2010. Additional findings show Identity frauds have remained at nearly one in two of all frauds recorded (46%), with a further 10% of frauds involving the illegal hijacking of a victim’s account, proving the continued value of personal and financial data to the modern financial criminal; Frauds involving the fraudulent misuse of an account or facility have risen to their highest levels since 2009, and account for a staggering 24% of all frauds; and plastic card accounts account for 38% of all account takeover cases. With this, 1H/11 saw an 10% fraud increase.

Pinnacle FCU & Elan Issue a VISA Credit Card Program

Pinnacle Federal Credit Union (FCU) is partnering with Elan Financial Services to provide credit card products and services to its nearly 24,000 members. This includes the purchase of the existing portfolio of approximately $13 million in balances and more than 5,000 accounts. Elan will also offer new accounts to members that currently don’t carry the Pinnacle FCU VISA® credit card. Elan has more than 40 years of experience as an agent credit card issuer with more than 1,700 partners, 400 of which are credit unions. The portfolio sale closed in June 2011 with a conversion to Elan’s processing systems anticipated within the next several months, for which terms will not be disclosed.
