Macy’s Inks Bank Credit Agreement

Macy’s entered into a $1.5 billion bank credit agreement that will mature on June 20, 2015. It replaces a previous $2 billion facility which was set to mature on August 30, 2012. Joint lead arrangers for the new agreement are J. P. Morgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo. The company now expects its interest expense in 2011 will be approximately $442 million, which compares to previous guidance of approximately $450 million. The company operates about 850 department stores in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico under the names of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s.

Montreal Grand Prix Hit in Retail Sectors

At the 2011 Montreal Grand Prix there was a 5.38% increase in overall dollars spent on a week-over-week basis across the hosting region, especially in the hospitality sector. This, according to data from Moneris Solutions, shows restaurants realized a 25.54% increase, drinking places saw a 117.42% increase in dollars spent, hotels saw a 8.76%, speciality retail was up 10.7%, camera and photography stores were up 55.0%, and sports apparel saw a 21.0% increase.
