CorFire mobile commerce business of SK C&C USA appointed Pascal Caillon and George Eubank to the CorFire team. Caillon joins CorFire as vice president Business Development and Mr. Eubank as vice president Financial Services. Caillon has spent over 15 years in business development positions in the payments and mobile commerce industries as VP of Business Development at TransferTo where he managed the P&L for the Americas regional unit and as the Director of M-Commerce at SanDisk Corp. Before that, he spent nine years at Visa leading various initiatives to capture and secure emerging payment volumes offered by the growth of mobile and e-commerce. Eubank comes to CorFire from Diebold where he was Business Development Manager of Integrated Services leading their global Mobile Banking initiative.

Comprion joins GlobalPlatform

Comprion manufacturer of test equipment for smart card based interfaces has become the latest member of GlobalPlatform. Its decision to join the association is part of the company’s commitment to the development of industry relevant and market driven test equipment. This allows it to contribute to all aspects of GlobalPlatform’s Card Committee, its chosen technical committee for on-going participation, where it will work to define neutral specifications for the deployment and management of multiple embedded applications on secure chip technology. The new member will also have the opportunity to take part in the association’s compliance program and, if successful, can become an accredited GlobalPlatform test tool provider.

TSYS Marks 10 Years Processing Across the Pond

TSYS is celebrating 10 Years of European Processing, having begun in 2001 following the successful conversion of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group’s card portfolios with Allied Irish Banks converting on 18th June and NatWest on 30th July. Conference Board Economic Index Falls .6%

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index(LEI) for Spain declined 0.6% and The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index(CEI) increased 0.1% in March. This following three consecutive monthly increases. Large drops in the order books survey and job placings more than offset the small gain in the capital equipment component of industrial production. The six-month change in the index stands at -0.9 percent (a -1.8 percent annual rate) in the period ending March 2011, down from 0.1 percent (a 0.2 percent annual rate) during the previous six months. In addition, the weaknesses among the leading indicators have been very widespread in recent months. The Conference Board CEI for Spain, a measure of current economic activity, increased slightly in March thanks in part final household consumption, industrial production excluding construction, retail sales, and real imports. Employment however declined.

ProPay’s Social-M Payment Platform Wins the 2011 ETA Challenge

ProPay Merchant Services, End-to-End Payment Security, credit card processing and electronic payment services announced its “Zumogo” Social-M Payment application is the winner of the 2011 ETA Technology Showcase Challenge. National Retail Federation Pulls Out Stops on Swipe Fee Reform Campaign

The National Retail Federation launched a major nationwide 60-day lobbying, grassroots and media campaign to ensure the federal law saving retailers and their customers more than $1 billion a month by lowering “swipe” fees banks charge to process debit card transactions takes effect in late July as scheduled. A provision in last year’s Wall Street reform bill will reduce the fees by an estimated 70 percent, saving about $14 billion a year that retailers plan to pass along to their customers through discounts or other benefits, but the credit card industry is spending millions to delay the reform. NRF’s multi-pronged campaign will include an intensive grassroots campaign mobilizing retailers from across the country through NRF’s members, members of its National Council of Chain Restaurants (NCCR) division, and state retail associations; a June fly-in with hundreds of business owners in Washington to meet with members of Congress and urge that the reforms go through as planned; an aggressive media relations campaign including media briefings and interviews with national and local news outlets, and nationwide placement of op-eds and letters to the editor; a nationwide print and radio advertising campaign including inside-the-beltway print and radio ads and hundreds of thousands of dollars in radio ads in key markets nationwide; leveraging social media and viral video to educate legislators and the public; and providing a platform for merchants and consumers to get involved through a new web resource center (www.nrf.com/swipefees).
