Groupement des Cartes Bancaires, the French Economic Interest Group (EIG) which manages CB interbank, payment and cash withdrawal systems, has joined GlobalPlatform. With this, Groupement de Cartes Bancaires is able to keep abreast of key technical specifications from GlobalPlatform that support emerging payment trends , such as near field communication (NFC) technology. It will also be able to contribute to GlobalPlatform debates regarding the future direction and development of the association’s technology advancements.

VeriFone Kicksoff Pay-at-Pump System

VeriFone Systems announced a contract to supply its unattended pay-at-the-pump and digital media solution with Petline Petroleum. The petroleum distributor will begin implementing VeriFone’s “MX760” unattended payment solution at its SELFSTOP self-service dispensers. Turkey is one of Europe’s leading credit card markets, but until now consumers have not been able to utilize pay-at-the-pump technologies. VeriFone is first to deliver automated payment solutions for Turkey’s retail petroleum market, which has an estimated 75,000 fuel dispensers. Petline can utilize the payment system screens to display commercials and promotional videos as customers are fueling their vehicles. VeriFone delivers a variety of payment solutions designed to meet the needs of petroleum retailers worldwide and make it easy for marketers to accept credit, debit, check, EBT and smart card payments.

Ingenico Sees Mach Speed Expansion

Ingenico payment solutions announced its Fujian Landi affiliate in China is making strides, with the Bank of China (BOC) having resumed in April its 2011 purchase plan of POS terminals, confirming Landi as its first supplier. Smaller banks such as CMSB (China Minsheng Bank) have also started to develop POS acquiring services. Landi has been chosen as the most important provider of CMSB. This makes Landi the largest provider in the secure electronic payments industry in the country with an estimated market share of 35%.

BPC Banking Technologies Open System e-payment solutions has inked a deal to implement its award winning SmartVista suite as a new e-payments platform for Afriland First Bank Group. The Bank, which currently issues domestic debit cards and an i-card payment product (an electronic purse based on chip card technology) has begun to migrate its payment business to SmartVista. NCR Gives New Meaning to Automated Teller Machine

NCR Corporation new “APTRA Interactive Teller” technology now lets consumers video conference with live, remote bank tellers directly from the ATM. Implementing uGenius Technology video banking solutions, NCR has integrated two-way video conferencing into its “SelfServ 32 ATMNCR” to allow financial institutions to extend branch hours by providing teller support from a self-service device. ATM users can either implement the standard self-service ATM functionality or choose the Interactive Teller interface at the ATMs, which also offer intelligent deposit, bill pay and new account or loan initiation. To date, more than 1,300 financial institutions in more than 130 countries around the world have purchased NCR SelfServ ATMs.

MasterCard Names President of DataCash

MasterCard Worldwide announced Ajay Bhalla has been appointed president of DataCash-which MasterCard acquired in 2010- and will now be responsible for all of MasterCard’s Commerce Gateway Services. Bhalla will provide leadership and management for MasterCard’s global end-to-end Gateway processing solutions organizations and the associated DataCash Fraud Tool and Risk Management services. He will be responsible for the profitability of the business, the operations and ongoing business integration, as well as developing the long-term vision, strategies and marketing plans that support global market expansion through new channels and service offerings. Bringing with him over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Bhalla joined MasterCard in 1992 and most recently served as division president for South East and South Asia (SESA) where he introduced PayPass and helped develop the MasterCard Titanium card.

Telemundo & Western Union Launch Co-Branded MasterCards

Telemundo and its mun2 television channel for young bicultural Hispanics in the U.S. have teamed with Western Union to offer Hispanic consumers in the U.S. two co-branded Western Union, Telemundo and mun2 general purpose reloadable MasterCard prepaid cards. Supported with a national integrated campaign to include television, digital, and direct to consumer marketing efforts, the agreement paves the way for these brands to leverage their presence to better serve Hispanic consumers, the fastest growing consumer segment in the U.S. The co-branded MasterCard prepaid cards will offer consumers flexible and convenient options for loading funds, including Western Union Money Transfer ® transactions. Consumers will be able to reload money in-person at more than 46,000 participating Western Union Agent locations in the U.S., through direct deposit of employer or government benefits, or through their bank account online. Cardholders have the ability to use the cards anywhere Debit MasterCard ® is accepted, including online and at ATMs.

Wescom Resources Group (WRG) technology solutions for credit unions launched its “MemberEdge Mobile Banking 2.0” edition to its suite of mobile applications for credit unions. The “MemberEdge Mobile Banking 2.0” solution expands on the rich feature set of WRG’s Mobile 1.x, adding significant new features, deployed initially on Apple’s iOS operating system. Features include support for integration to a credit union’s social media channels. IronKey Continues Growth in 1Q/11

IronKey data and online access security continued its strong sales, customer, and partner growth leading to a record breaking quarter for the company. During the first quarter of 2011, overall product bookings increased 90% compared to the same period last year. The number of banks using Trusted Access for Banking doubled from the fourth quarter as Gartner reported that crimeware on clients’ computers is now the most alarming threat to online banking executives in the U.S. And to advance IronKey’s strategy of strong growth and address more customers, IronKey added Arrow Electronic in North America and Cohort Technology and Wick Hill Germany in Europe as value added distributors.
