Global Axcess Inks Major Deployment of DVD Kiosks

Global Axcess self-service kiosk solutions has completed its deployment of new DVD kiosks with the major grocery chain (“Grocery”), that Global Axcess signed a three-year contract with to initially install 323 DVD kiosk locations. To date, more than 300 new DVD kiosks have been deployed with the grocery chain and are renting DVDs to customers. Across the Global Axcess system, the Company now has approximately 340 DVD kiosks deployed. Global Axcess Corp was founded in 2001 and currently owns, manages or operates more than 4,900 ATMs and other self-service kiosks in its national network spanning 43 states.

Keynote Launches Smartphone Mobile Retail Index

Keynote Competitive Research has released its smartphone mobile commerce index, the “Mobile Commerce Index.” Offering a weekly performance ranking of leading and up-and-coming US retail mobile Web sites being accessed using popular wireless device profiles, including the Apple iPhone, it underscores the critical issue of mobile site performance and establishes performance benchmarks across a representative sampling of mobile Web sites. Visa Makes Available LA & NY Commuter Systems

Visa announced commuters in New York and Los Angeles can use their payment cards for bus, subway and train fares. As part of Visa’s long-term strategy of extending the speed, security and convenience of Visa acceptance to new locations, in New York, riders can pay using Visa “payWave”-enabled cards and mobile phones, while commuters in Los Angeles can use their Visa prepaid card to ride the LA metro system. In driving acceptance at the mass transit fare gate, Visa is providing riders with a better way to pay by eliminating the time-consuming step of searching for cash to buy a ticket while minimizing cash handling costs for transit operators. The pilot program in New York uses the “payWave” technology based on a small electronic chip embedded in a mobile phone or payment card that communicates securely with contactless readers at the fare gate and on the bus while the program in Los Angeles is exclusive to Visa and started September 15, 2010 and is a system wide commercial implementation available to all riders of the LA Metro system with the TAP “ReadyCARD.”

Fifth Third Processing Solutions has acquired certain assets Springbok Services in connection with the latter’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding, including the Springbok reloadable prepaid card processing platform. Lower-Income Shoppers Represent $115b Opportunity

Lower-income consumers frequently shop but generally spend less per trip than average, often shopping with only a paycheck or pocket cash. African American lower-income consumers make the most retail shopping trips per year with 177 trips, seniors make 169, and Hispanics make 168. Lower-income households with children spend the most at $39.65 per trip, followed by younger households at $37.58.Lower-income shoppers will generate $115 billion in incremental spending during the next decade, according to SymphonyIRI Group and its fourth annual “The Lower-Income Shopper Report: Serving Lower-Income/Multicultural Shopper Micro-Segments” research report. At the same time, 49 percent of lower-income shoppers are much more likely to track their spending during the trip and make budget driven decisions on the fly versus 38 percent of higher-income shoppers. During the past two years, half of lower-income shoppers report that they have decreased spending in discretionary areas, including home furnishings and furniture, in order to better afford essentials, such as food and healthcare.
